1 year!

Good morning SR friends!

Today marks 1 year sober for me!
I just want to thank everybody here for all you do to help people get/stay sober. I never had anybody that really understood my struggles with this, so this board has been a great help in not feeling so alone.

It took me a very long time to get here. I think I first visited this board in 2009 (lots of different usernames, never remembered my passwords). I've 'quit' so many times over the years, 3-4 times a week for years... In fact, I swore every time was my last, and I really meant it when I said it, until 5:00 rolled around and the cravings hit.

So, thank-you all again for being here, you are needed more than you know. Have a great sober day.

Congratulations.

I am at 6 weeks sober today after 27+ years of daily drinking.

I can't count the days I spent hungover, saying I wouldn't drink that day, and found myself with a drink in my hand at 5:00. So many times I wasn't even in the mood to drink but forced it down anyway; it was because that's what I did every single night - I drank.

so glad I am out of that evil rut.

I have to begin my recovery journey again. But, you are all an inspiration. I'm on Day 2 and hope to achieve my milestones, too! Nice job. Any advice for me?

Thank-you all It feels good to be free.

Doug39, oh how I know the evil rut, what an awful way to live, and I don't think we even fully realize it until we are free of it. The hangovers at the end of my drinking were pretty scary.
Never again. Congrats on your sober time! You'll never regret getting sober.

ChloeRose, my best advice is don't drink no matter what. NO MATTER WHAT. That's all I did actually at the beginning. Eventually when I felt better physically/mentally I started living again, and enjoying my life again without the chains. You will get there, and as you build up sober time you will think about it less & less. You need to want it more than than anything.

It does get easier but it's never easy, if that makes sense. I still have that passing thought, but I laugh at myself because I would never go back. I enjoy my freedom too much.
