Harrowing DUI Story
Harrowing DUI Story
I was speaking with another member regarding their pending DUI trial, and how people don't always take it seriously enough. In searching SR for DUI posts, I found this harrowing DUI story from a member who went by the name gr8ful42day. She has not been active in a while, but her story is worth reading.

Perhaps some day she will let us know how she is doing, and if she ever finally made it with this on her conscience. I honestly don't know that I would have.
Thoughts are welcome.

Wow, talk about cheating death...
We have very strict driving laws here in Australia as well as a very negative societal mentality to those that drink and drive due to the high rate of fatalities and injuries on the roads.
This has changed dramatically over the years, I can remember when we were young, if we were pulled over by police and given the alcohol intoxication test it would include something like count backwards from 10 or walk 10 steps heel toe, heel toe.
I hope gr8ful42day is doing okay.

I have said this before, but I very selfishly use stories like that or posts in which people are experiencing horrible withdrawal and I use them as fuel for my own sobriety. They are powerful reminders. I'll never be cured, but I've got a year behind me and things are not too bad...might even say "good".
thomas11,
This struck me the most:

I should have listened to the counselors in rehab. They told me YET=you are eligible too! I want everyone on this thread to remember my story and know that there is a YET if you stay on this road.
Now I am facing life sober. It's not easy. The guilt, remorse, embarrassment, etc. is not easy to face sober. But I must!
