Surgeon general report: ‘Addiction is not a character flaw’

I've always believed this. Will be an interesting read.

For me its all my other issues with thinking and emotional modulation that lead to my addiction. The addiction itself is a coping mechanism gone awry.

I hope this becomes widely distributed. Too many people still don't understand addiction, and there's still a stigma.

Can't wait to read the report.
I've believed that my addiction to alcohol is a moral failing, a character defect, total lack of will. And those beliefs did nothing to build up my self esteem or self worth whenever I inevitably drank again.
Just earlier this week I was in despair because I thought that as I'd drunk again, it was always going to be this way and a horrific end was inevitable.
But over the last few days, my thinking has started to shift and I can see it is not a character flaw that causes me to drink like an addict.
My brain and body react differently to alcohol from those who can take it or leave it. I'm just wired differently.
