Such a Range of Emotions
I've been on Day 1 many times before but it's been well over a year. Trying again today, woke up in a panic last night, so ashamed of who I have become, terrified of what I have done to myself. It's almost 10 am here in Toronto and I am a bit nervous about what lies ahead. But I also feel a sense of excitement and hope, if I can just wake up tomorrow with a night of no drinking behind me I know how good I will feel. Now comes the challenge of getting there.
Thanks in advance, I'd be lost without SR.

Jp,
The first week or so the physical and mental ravaged me.
Then since I was so polluted, it took another month to heal pretty well.
I had flu like symptoms initially.
At 80 days clean, the mental anguish was maddening. I googled it and found SR.
I kept posting and reading.
I traded drinking for SR. It worked.
Thanks.

This advice might be controversial, but it worked for me.
I switched from liquor to beer, then to light beer. I got to a point I could drink every other day instead of every day. Then I would try to go 2 days between drinking, then 3, then 4, etc. until I got to 7. After a few weeks of drinking once a week I decided to quit.
It has still been extremely hard. I slipped and regressed many times and have been working this method for a while before having success.
Today I've been sober for 36 days straight.
I apologize if this seems like bad advice.
I wish you the best of luck no matter how you do it. These people who say they are happier sober are telling the truth. I used to think it was BS but it is true!
Never give up!
