Hello Everyone

Good Evening,

I'm a 44 year old woman with a grown up daughter and a boyfriend I live with.

I signed up for alcohol recovery. Nobody other than my family would guess I have a drinking problem. However, I only drink about once a week but when I do, I drink way too much and cannot stop.

I deal with the guilt and shame of that on a weekly basis.

I am going to go to a Beginners AA group. I went to a meeting today and did not know there were different types. It will be further to drive but I think a beginners specific group might be my best bet.

I've tried to do this before alone and it doesn't work out too well. As I only do this once a week it's easy to tell lies to myself that there isn't really a problem.

Anyway, thanks for reading.

Welcome Bungler - we're here to encourage you. I'm glad you found us.

I couldn't stop once I started either. I never could predict what would happen once it was in my system. The only way to stay safe was to stop. You can do it.

Thanks Hevyn and Sleepie. The only option I have is to stop. I love my family and don't want to hurt them.

I took my drinking indoors because I knew I couldn't stop and didn't want to make an ass out of myself in front of other people. This means my family has to deal with it. Anyway, thanks, only on day one

Welcome Bungler!

My only option was to stop all together too.

This message board helps because people are to help 24/7.

Welcome, Bungler,

I'm glad you posted. Denial is a huge part of alcoholism and I think it helps to know there are others out there who deal with the same thing. We do understand.

Hello and welcome. I'm new here as well. I too began drinking alone in my home. I would never go out and drink in public. I suffer from anxiety and it's some kind of dysfunctional coping mechanism.

I must stop this and deal with things differently. Coming here and talking to other people who don't start shaming me has been a relief as I come from a family who has zero tolerance for "mistakes" of any kind.

I know we can be healthier and happier and find new ways of living

Hi Bun. welcome. That you found your way here and have begun going to meetings is great. When I thought I had a problem with alcohol- I was right. Took me way too long to do anything about it. Just a point- the most important person for you to stop drinking for is yourself. Without sobriety?Well, go figure.

Welcome Bungler, You'll find that most of us are in the same boat - we just can't drink one glass.

Hey Hevyn! I'm on day 2, doing fine. I work three twelve hour shifts and never drink while I'm on work days. That's the thing that's always bugged me - I planned my drinking. Nothing to do? Start up a drinking session. But I never have let it upset obligations.

It's the days off that are the dang problem. Thanks for checking in with me.

Welcome Bungler. It's really not about how often or how much, but how it affects you irrespective of both. You seem to have figured that already
