Went in for a checkup and they found this!
I was 5 days sober and highly optimistic this one would be the final attempt (we all know how that works). Anyway I could tell something was off, not to mention I went fully jaundice after stopping. My first thought was to give it some time to wear off. I'm not drinking so whats the problem right?
Another 2 days and the jaundice was still there, nice & yellow. I didn't want to go to the hospital due to expenses but something told me I needed to, at least for some IV's to hydrate and have some blood work done. Well after all the tests, etc, they found my liver was in real bad shape. Basically I was right on the verge of cirrhosis. Doctor told me point blank had I tried to do this myself and fell back into even 1 binge that's exactly where I'd be. That my friends just saved my life!
I'm now on day 20.

Education and learning about addiction
and it's affects on our own bodies and
those around us is extremely important
in living a sober and clean life.
Learning some sort of recovery program
to incorporate in all areas of our life, using
it as a guideline with help us achieve
many awesome rewards in life to enjoy
for yrs to come.
Hope was passed on to me some
26yrs ago that if many could and
would remain sober using a program
of recovery on a daily bases then
I could and would to.
Keeping an openmind, having
willingness to always do the next
best think in remaining sober
and becoming honest, upfront,
forthcoming are 3 important steps
amongst many others in helping
achieve, health, happiness and a
freedom from addiction that is so
worth living for.

Same thing happened to a good friend of mine. He had been sober for 16 years, and had a 3+ year relapse that almost killed him. He has been told by doctors "you drink, you die." He's taking that pretty seriously. Sober over two years again now. I hope you, and he, can lick this thing and live happily from here on out.
I, too, have medical reasons for not drinking again. I guess this alcoholic needed something drastic to happen. The AA Big Book said "alcoholic destruction, it finally beat us in to reasonableness." That is so me
Congratulations on your sobriety and I'm glad you are here
