1st day without any alcohol

I've been drinking for the past 5 years daily for the most part. I would take 3 months off here and 6 months off here. sometimes I would quit for a week or two but I always ended back at it and each time it got worse. The past 2 months I have been drinking up to 20 beers a night. Always beer never did like the hard stuff. Decided the other day enough was enough for good so I quit. Had horrible anxiety and panic attacks so went back to the bottle with a plan. Self detox, I really want to quit so I attacked each day drinking less and less. 3 days into it I still had horrible anxiety and panic attacks and finally listened to th great people here in this forum! I went to the ER manned up and spoke the truth about my problem. They didn't have a detox center but they did prescribe me lorazepam and let me tell you how much it has helped. The first day has been a breeze, anxiety gone, no shakes or cold sweats, my heart rate and BP are perfect. I'm hoping it continues this way. Glad I went to a Doc though I didn't have a choice because I had tremors and serious panic attacks.

Glad the doctors helped you. Getting thru the first few days can be rough. Meds do ease the anxiety.

Lorazepam is great stuff. It will help you to bridge our of your dependence on alcohol. But it is very addictive and should only be used for a week or two. Be careful not to swap one drug for another.
Good luck with your sobriety. It really is worth it.

Just a reminder to folks to share your experience but please shy away from medical recommendations. Medical advice is against our rules
