Need to do this
I am a 30 year old and thought I could handle a drink turns out this isn't the case, I thought I had changed and wasn't the horrible drunk I used to be. I need to stop drinking as even though I don't drink this much when I do I make up for it. I want to be a better person

Thank you normally I'm OK when I've had a drink I normally know my limits, but Saturday night was horrible I started attacking people and acting like a drunken pysco I just think it's best for me to not drink for a while xx
Just a while?
It was a night of uncontrolled drinking that finally convinced me I had a problem. One that wasn't going to go away after a "while". So I don't drink. I won't drink. Ever.
And my life has gotten a whole lot better.

It's not possible if you are an alcoholic.
There is an invisible line and once you have crossed it, you cannot go back. You said you turn into a different person when you drink and normally you know your limits. I think the point is that you don't know when you will lose control and not know your limits, and you never will know that. We've all tried to do that and it doesn't work for alcoholics.
I hope you stop drinking and find that your life improves.

Welcome to SR. This is a great place for support, wisdom and companionship.
I think it is possible to go out and have a good time without drinking. I'm finding I'm enjoying a lot of my hobbies again that I gave up while drinking and actually are more fun now.

It's absolutely possible to go out and have "me time" without drinking. I do it all the time. At first I didn't do social things where alcohol was present. I went for walks. I went and got pedicures. I went shopping. I had coffee with friends, or even alone in a coffee shop. I went to AA meetings.
Now I can go out to dinner with friends or family, go to parties, watch football games at friends' houses - alcohol is usually present, but I don't feel like I want to drink.
If you turn into another person when you drink, NOW would be a good time to nip it in the bud and quit drinking. I wish you the best.
