Tired of hurting

I have recently started to realize I have a problem with drinking. I used to only drink on the weekends, but now I drink a couple days during the week as well. I have no self control. Last night I drank over half a fifth of vodka. This needs to stop. Another time I drank about the same amount and ended up doing something stupid, and put myself in danger. I'm reckless and a danger to myself. I need help and support. Any advice and/or tips?

When ready....stop drinking.

That is what we all did.

Some never drink again. Some relapse.

Drinking is a learned behavior. It can be changed.

We are all addicts for life. The crave never fully goes away for many of us.

That is why many relapse over and over.

The key to staying sober is in wanting to be sober more than you want to drink.

Hello and Welcome. Yes, least is right. And I know it's easier said than done but you CAN do it. One day, one hour, one minute at a time. Reading and posting on SR can help tremendously. Both to get some perspective on questions you might have and to get continued encouragement whenever you need it.

Best wishes to you today

Welcome to SR Tina. Sorry you aren't feeling well. This is a great place for advice and tips. I first came here a couple of months ago with a similar drink pattern to yours. I was stuck in a cycle.

Coming here gave me the knowledge, inspiration, courage and support to stop. In my first week I was here reading, posting, learning unless I was sleeping or working. You may want to try the same.

I think I will definitely be on here a lot. I'm a single mom to three kids and I have to do this for them.

Tina, are you doing anything else to help with sobriety? AA? Counseling?

I'm also a single Mom of three. Life is much, much easier without being drunk or hungover.

It's great to meet you, Tina.

I was once a weekend drinker too. I gradually let it control me - and in the end I was drinking every day. My life turned into an unmanageable nightmare. The only way to stay safe was to stop all together. It feels so good to have it out of my life. Glad you are here!
