Sober Day 21. Would like to share my experience with newcomers

Hello,
This is my first time i have managed to stay sober for so long. And yes, 21 days is huge for me. I used to drink 4 or 5 liters of beer everyday for like 13 years. I would like to share how i feel to encourage people who are struggling.

Some of you know my story, my business is very bad and my gf left me at the same time. I am almost out of money. Then i said to myself i should quit now. Tried 2 times in a month and finally at the 3rd time, i managed to stay sober. I know there is a huge path infront of me but i feel confident.

I would like to write pros and cons of staying sober for 3 weeks.

Pros
1- I can`t believe the energy i have.
2- I am more talkative and outgoing than ever (This is weird because i started to drink thinking i was shy and need a relaxer.)
3- I lost 6 kgs. About 11 pounds i think (I am european )
4- I learned you can have fun without alcohol, you can laugh and smile
5- I eat very healthy and maybe this is the reason i am feeling so good. When i was drinking i couldn`t have any breakfast at all.
6- I wake up really rested and ready for life.
7- For me most important think is, i finally rest on weekends.
8- I realized that i was either drunk or hangover for 13 years and wasted my life.
9- My skin is greasier and looking very healthy.
10- Realized Non alcoholic beverages tastes good

Cons
1- I sometimes miss the conversations over drinks. (very rarely)
2- Getting social was hard for the 1st week, after that there is no problem, i even realized not everybody is drinking like i do.
3- Some anxiety hits very rarely.

Actually that`s all, you do not need a drink to be yourself at all. It is just an illusion that we need a drink to be happy, outgoing or unstressful.

Best Regards.

Good for you Blackened!! Keep doing what you're doing!! -

I too first posted at 21 days ---- that's when I knew getting and staying sober was possible.

Thank you so much for sharing, Blackened; so very happy for you that your pros are many more than your cons.

This is, indeed, very inspiring! Congratulations to you!

Great job Blackened! Keep going- it will keep getting better and better. Whatever happens in my life now - and the promises have definitely been coming true- I can deal with it, sober.

Curious- what is your recovery plan? IRL support has been my bedrock, and my choice is a devoted AA program.

Good luck to you. Hope to see you around!

Kind of a surprise to find that you can have fun sober, isn't it? Stay with it. It just keeps getting better. I agree with August that it's hard to do this by yurself. I am a great believer in AA. You might give it a look. Great fellowship too, and a whole new group of friends who understand where you are coming from.
Good luck

Hi Blackened, great post! You said you can't believe the energy that you now have. I have noted that I get so much more done, especially over weekends. I don't have to force myself, I just do things instead of just taking it easy (nursing a hangover) and getting nothing done.

I am seeing a thearapist, and actually moved to my parents` house to ensure i am not drinking. After 3 or 4 days i didn`t feel an urge at all. However, i am gonna stay here for 3 months to get my head straight completely.

Yes it is very suprising.. I went to tracking with an extreme sports group today instead of recovering from hangover.. Met some new people, swam under a waterfall. I can`t believe i have wasterd most of my life. Anyway, i am still 33 and young i think
