The benefits of being sober on Sunday morning
No hangover
No remorse
Enjoy the beautiful fall morning
and we have the annual Rock and Roll half marathon that winds thru my neighborhood
What are some of your benefits?

Was able to wake up early, go visit my mom for a couple of hours, take a long hike, do two loads of laundry, clean up my kitchen - all before 2 pm. Never in a million years would all that have happened when I was still drinking.

100% me!! although it was still a slow start to the morning (hey, the kids were at the grandparents - of course i'm going to take my time getting out of bed!! lol) i ripped apart their room - washed the walls, floor, all the bedding, got two bags of garbage out of there, moved the bunk-bed AND cleaned out the closet!!
i even got to dye my hair - all before they came home at 1pm

I am so envious
I really do not wake up hungover. I drink just enough to avoid skin-crawling anxiety. Unfortunately, it's a lot. But I am going into detox next week. We'll see.
But I so miss what u r talking about. I miss driving down the freeway with the windows down on my car, sun on my face, about 7:30 in the am, listening to Boston's "more than a feeling". And thinking to myself, "life is good." Then going to my office and downing that first cup of coffee, and kicking ass during the day.
I am barely hanging on right now. I lost control somewhere. But I have to get it back.
I want those days back.

ERosey -what are you going to do after detox? Are you thinking of entering some sort of treatment program? Detox may not be enough to really set you on a road to recovery. Even outpatient treatment could help you gather some very important tools for continued sobriety. When I knew I had reached the end of my drinking, I went to treatment, started going to AA, and became a regular poster/reader here. I was going to do anything it took to stay sober. Do you have a plan?

- Waking up feeling refreshed rather than bloated and tired.
- Enjoying the taste and smell of my morning coffee.
- Feeling motivated and optimistic.
- Wanting to actually accomplish something and having the energy to do it.
- Not looking back, but looking forward to life....
