It's a beautiful day!

I'm about 2 1/2 weeks sober this time. Today feels very surreal. I feel like I did as a teenager or young adult. It's like everything is possible again. I don't know if it's the sobriety or meditation or the weather or a combination. I am really grateful for this beautiful day.

Also, I've been eating a lot of ice cream floats this time. So far, my favorite is chocolate ice cream with lemon-lime soda. I'm open to suggestions if there are any float connoisseurs out there.

Your optimism inspires me, Auggie! Although I lost my taste for sweets in the late 90s.

With me, it's anything with milk - ice cream, breakfast cereals.

I've been sober before and seen the pink cloud on a few occasions. This feels different than that, somehow. I haven't felt this youthful since I was young. I think the weather is pulling up latent memories and emotions from a time when I was 18 or 19 and sitting on my porch drinking coffee and imagining all the possibilities that could become my life.

It's as if I've been looking at the crushing blows of my past instead of truly feeling the possibilities for the future.

Thank you for sharing your joy. You're an inspiration. Waking up sober..the best start of the day! There are times when I don't recognize myself. Like the old me is falling away. If you're in AA the Big Book talks about being rocketed into a 4th dimension. We are transformed. Lots of growth spurts, up and downs, but it's all healing. And it gets better. The pink cloud gave me a little view of what was to come.
As far as ice cream floats I never got past root beer and vanilla ice cream. A&W my favorite.

Good to see you Auggie - I hope you can make this time be your time.

Apart from the ice cream do you have a plan?

I am, I must say, a boring ice cream float purist. Root beer, vanilla ice cream. Hugs

Happy is a great thing huh? I'm right there with ya.....generally when I'm not leveling the world around me with alcohol I'm pretty darn happy. Gratitude is a very powerful thing. I try to take a big dose daily.

Ok, chocolate and lemon lime. Seriously? I've never been a float person but I can imagine ginger ale as a good base. Coffee ice cream maybe? Vanilla is always a safe bet.

I drank heavily for almost 10 years then quit for almost a year, then started drinking again...etc. I quit in Feb this year for 3 months and had been drinking fairly moderately since then. Something really bad happened at the end of last month and I went on a bender that lasted several days. My pattern is taking a very bad day and making it 1000 times worse with alcohol. Time to break that pattern!

Hi Dee! I've missed you. The plan...I know...I know...

I think, for me, this takes more than figuring out how I'm going to deal with stress without alcohol. I think something needs to change on a very base level. I've been taking classes in neuro linguistic programming (NLP).

I'm planning a move to Belize next year. It's a lifelong dream coming true, that I refuse to sabotage with alcohol. My motivation is strong.
