Am I allowed to even be here?
I haven't stopped drinking. Am I allowed to be here? I know I need help. I don't want to be a fraud and come across as someone who as it all together. I hope I haven't come across that way. I'm here to learn. I'm here to find another way. Is that okay?
You absolutely belong
We're here for those struggling - as much as for those who want to share their sober experience to help with others.
SR is here for anyone who wants to beat their addiction coweyelens

SR is a wonderful site where we are all welcome. I am really glad you are here.
I have 8 and a half months sober, but my join date is March of 2012. I spent a few years fluctuating between periods of sobriety, and failed attempts at moderation. I kept coming back to SR, and there were definitely times I read or posted on here while I was drinking.
I found that I really needed a plan for recovery, for me simply saying I am not going to drink didn't work. I started logging on here daily, and posted and read lots. I joined the January class and found an incredibly supportive group of people who I still check in with each day. I started posting on the 24 hour thread and I look forward to seeing everyone who is committing to another sober day.
The first few weeks I needed to plan out every minute I normally would have been drinking. After a while my new routine became habit. I looked forward to exercise, reading, getting hooked on a new series, journaling, and still checking in here. I really started to work on mindfulness, and that has really helped me. I k ow I can't change the past, only learn from it, and I can't worry about what may or may not happen on the future, but I can be fully present each day.
Do you have a recovery plan in place? What have you tried in the past?
I look forward to seeing you on here, and I promise you sobriety is worth it!

I knew I had to quit, but wasn't quite ready when I found SR. I found the strength and courage to change my life by reading and posting here. You will get there - and we're happy you found us.

Absolutely you are welcome here!
Lots of us joined at an earlier date, drank again, and came back seeking help, many times over.
That doesn't mean you have to do the same. You can stop drinking now!

you won't come across that way
you're in the perfect place! no-one here has it all together.
welcome, coweyelens.
knowing you need help is a great starting point.

I joined SR in October 2013 and chronically relapsed until March 2016 when I entered a program. I sometimes felt that I didn't have the right to be here, too. I would still hang around and read posts all the time, but didn't feel I deserved to post if I wasn't committed to quitting. But I actually just didn't know how to quit and actually recover. I didn't realize that people who drink like I do understand how hard it is to stop. And that I really needed to be here and did belong here, especially because of this fact that I couldn't stop drinking.
