Friday Night
Friday Night
It's Friday night in my neck of the woods. I've been sober for 10 days now. For the first time in that stretch, I've had some significant cravings tonight. I've had passing ones, but nothing like tonight.
So, I played the tape forward. I have several things to accomplish tomorrow, and know that if I go get some booze and go on a bender tonight, I won't get any of it done tomorrow.
I also looked back at how things have changed in just 10 short days. My face isn't puffy any longer and normal color is returning. My eyes have gotten whiter and brighter. I sleep much, much better and actually feel rested in the morning. My digestive system is returning to normal (this is one of my favorite aspects of sobriety). And very importantly, my blood pressure has come down to normal range after being high for longer than I care to admit (especially for being on BP meds). I don't want to lose any of that!
Reading on here daily and posting periodically has helped me tremendously. Thank you to all for all of the support, even if it's not on one of my posts. I get something useful out of all the posts I read, even if I don't comment.
I plan to finish my night with a bowl of one of my favorite ice creams and something on Netflix. Have a fantastic weekend!
Oh, and one more thing that has helped me this week is that I've connected with a good friend that is further along in recovery than me. We've had some great and honest conversations and even met for lunch this past week. It's awesome to have the support that's offered on SR, but I also find the face-to-face support very beneficial, as well. I'm fortunate to have such a friend.
Pax vobiscum!

You may want to check out the weekly "Weekenders" thread.

There are people with different levels of sobriety that want to help each other get through the weekend.

Thanks for the link, U2E! I'll read through it when I have a chance. That's quite the long thread and I'm sure there's valuable information and insight to be found in it. But now, I'm off for some mindless streaming and fattening ice cream!

Actually, most of it is basic chitchat. If you need someone to talk to remember that thread. There are usually people around who are happy to help any way they can.
