Newcomer here

Hello. I think I have a problem, but I don't want to be labeled. I'm a person with a problem with alcohol. I don't need it. I choose to drink. Too much. I don't black out, but that doesn't mean I don't need help. My husband drinks, too. It's going to be tough if he doesn't want to change. I'm here because I know that there is more to life than drinking the days away. Thanks

Welcome! I never liked labels, not on my jeans , file folders, and most definitely not on myself. I'm me - no need to define it, I already know.

In terms of sobriety I don't go around waving a flag announcing my status to the world. I'm private. But here on SR, I will tell you I am an addict. Alcohol and benzos.

You know you have a problem, you don't have to slap the term alcoholic on your behind to get help. You don't even have to know if you are an alcoholic or not. You just need the desire to stop drinking. Sounds like you do.

Welcome to SR. Read and post often. It helps.

Hi coweyelens

If you accept the problem, I think the label matter less?

In any case, you'll find support here - welcome

welcome? you don't like labels, but wouldn't " I'm a person with a problem with alcohol"be a label??
but call it what ya want. alcohols a problem for ya.
so, now time for solutions.
yup, theres a heckuva lot more to life than drinking. theres actually a life, something I never experienced. I was just existing.
but then I got a solution and worked it.
now im living a pretty darn good life.
theres quite a few different solutions available.

Welcome!

I've never labeled myself. I chose to drink too much for too long- then chose to live alcohol-free.

Thanks for posting!

Thanks

I appreciate the feedback so far. I'm in a weird spot. I recognize that I do have a love/hate relationship with beer and wine. It's a mess I've brought upon myself. thank you all for your vigilance

You have come to the right place if you are planning to stop drinking. I don't like labels either and the only thing that really matters is that you stop drinking. If your husband drinks, that doesn't have to affect your plan to stop drinking. There is a lot more to life than alcohol and you will find lots of support here.

Do you have a plan for stopping and staying sober?

It's good to meet you, coweyelens. I think being here to talk things over will really help you. Unpredictable things happened when I drank & I did nothing about it. My life became a nightmare because of my dependency. This doesn't have to happen to you. Glad you are here.

Hi coweyelens, and welcome. I'm still working on it all as I have a problem too. I'd like to put in a link that's helped me: http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...ery-plans.html

With the stickies and this plan to make a plan, we're one step ahead.
