Headaches
Hello. I have been sober for 2 years and I have had headaches every day for 2 years. I have been to the doctor and had all the tests and they say it is not neurological. The symptoms indicate trigeminal nerve damage. I am currently taking 3200 mg a day of Gabapentin. If I don't take this every 4 hours, usually the right side of my head explodes. This also serves my back pain and evens out my moods. Any ideas or help ? Thank you.
Welcome to the Forum Sandiminar!!
Is there any way to get a second opinion on the headaches? There has to be some kind of reason for them and more importantly to get the treatment you need.
2 Years Sobriety is also fantastic!!

Hi. No ideas sorry, but wanted to say to SR and well done on two years!!
We're not actually allowed to give out medical advice, but perhaps someone will come along, that has had similar experience. Have you thought of getting a second opinion from another Doctor?

Hi and welcome Sandimar
I too suffer from trigeminal nerve pain
I had to see a few Drs before I found a solution that worked for me.
In my case that was a tricyclic anti-depressant that also works on the kind of nerve pain I was having. I take 25 mg morning and night (50mg all up).
3200mg of anything boggles my mind.
I'm not a Dr so I can't say whether that would work for you or not but I think it is definitely worth considering a second opinion.

Welcome. I also have extensive TMJ pain. I went through so many neurological tests including CT scans, MRIs, traditional X-rays, dental X-rays, and a butt load of different medications. I couldn't tolerate Gabapentin which is too bad as for years it was the only medication that relieved my pain. When Lyrica first came out my regular MD and neurologist decide to try it since its from the same family as other seizure meds that are known to work on TMJ pain. It has worked and after twenty-five years I'm weaning off a headache medication.
