long time since I've posted, 36 days sober...
I see some old names in these forums, lots of new ones.
Just wanted to drop in and say hi. I'm 36 days without a drink and haven't felt better about life in years.
I cannot recommend more a book called the 30-Day Sobriety Solution by Jack Canfield. It has been a revelatory read. Very self-helpy but has daily suggestions and exercises that have helped me both get at the roots of my desire for the bottom of the bottle and helped me work through the whys of my desire to not be a slave to the bottle anymore.
The Nietzsche quote rings true: He who has a why to live can bear almost any how.
It's a daily vigilance and a daily focus on personal growth that have, finally, got me here.
There are many lessons I learned from being on these forums, though mainly as a lurker, these past years. And I thank everyone for that.
I'm not in the clear, but it's clear I am where I need to be.
Wishing everyone strength and the peace that comes with it.

Thanks to everyone. Dee and Scott- much of what you've written over the years has aided me.
Nice to see everyone else as well.
Most important and I think different about not drinking this time is that I have some solid "why"s as to the way I want to live. A solid foundation of principles that, as a man and a father and a new fiance, I want to live by daily. The deceit and shame that accompany the drunk's life are ways to live I no longer want/need or can abide by.
Thank you all again, always.
Eternal vigilance being, of course, the price of freedom.
