Soft shades of serenity
Soft shades of serenity
Last night I dodged a weapon of mass destruction size bullet. I really really wanted to drink. I craved that few hours of sinking into soothing oblivion. I knuckled down. I did not drink.
Today I woke up to the first real spring day here in our part of the world. Beautiful sunshine, cloudless sky, not a breath of wind. The beach becons, for a sports nut like me we have international cricket and rugby on telly and in between I am reading the brilliant "A new history of the Western World" by Roger Osborne.
Now just think how I would have felt today if I drank last night. If I threw away 103 days of sobriety. My headache would have made the sunshine and the beach impossible. I would have despised myself and the concerns and worries that lead to that desire to drink would have loomed even larger.
Instead, I can take the small and real pleasures available to me in bite-size pieces and have a really good day.
Alcohol complicates, sobriety simplifies.

Excellent coping skills Darwinia. Enjoy your day in serenity.
You may want to print your post and then if you ever feel like drinking again read it and it will help you to realize it isn't the right direction to take.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend. :-)
