Bad Dreams

I've read a lot about frequent nightmares in early recovery... I had my first one last night. I can recall pieces of it now, but it must have been more terrifying than I remember -- I woke up to my husband leaning over me and repeating, "You're just dreaming!" He said I started crying out in my sleep... It even scared him!

I had terrible nightmares during the last six months of my drinking and into early sobriety. I remember some very distinctly, especially the one where I bolted awake and ran to the kitchen/living area certain I'd find the usual detritus of a night of drinking. They gradually went to vivid dreams and now (at 6mo) i dream normally.

It will pass. Hang in there- and be happy you have someone next to you to gently shake you awake and reassure you!

Always had horrible nightmares in early recovery. hot bath in epsom salt helped then chamomile tea helped with them.

I used to have constant bad dreams/nightmares when drinking. They've gone away in sobriety (with the occasional bad dream once in awhile).

Man, drinking won't even leave us alone in our sleep. When you add up all the cons of drinking, it doesn't look very attractive.
