Struggling with binge drinking and blackouts

Hi

I'm new and just had a dark binge session Saturday and am recovering. I broke stuff, cried, and blacked out in front of family. I'm 31 and have been a problem drinker my whole life and I want to quit and never drink again. I need a plan and some help. I'm scared and sick to my stomach. I never want to drink again. How do I stop?

Hi skylove. Welcome.

You came to the right place. Start by going to bed sober tonight. Repeat tomorrow.

Then when you recover a bit, start making a plan.

You can do this.

I also had black outs as I am sure most of us have! They are very scary! I stay close to this website, go to AA meetings, I research a lot of recovery stories to give me hope, I pray every single day to stay sober, I read books on recovery, I avoid places that have heavy drinking and sometimes places that have alcohol all together, I go to church, etc. Most of all I hang on tight and get thru the day one day at a time. I think where drinking led me and how if I pick up today it is not going to change anything! It will add more dark days. You can do this!

Welcome SkyLove. You asked, "How do I stop". I think you have made a move in the right direction by coming here. Read around there are so many ideas and stories of how people have been able to stop. It's a great place.

Hi SkyLove, i am here for the same reason. My main problem/issue is blacking out. I may drink once/twice every couple of months but every time i drink i black out. I went out with my sons friends mum at the weekend and only had 4 drinks that i can remember and after that total blank. I was out in town for 3 hrs more but cant remember a thing. I continue functioning and unfortunately drinking but i never remember a thing :-(

Welcome to SR! You will find lots of great support on this site. You should join he August class, you will be surrounded by others who have also committed or recommitted to sobriety this month.

Blackout is a great book, you may want to read it as you begin your journey. There is a sticky that Anna posted that lists lots of great recovery books.

Also, start each day in the 24 hour thread committing to remaining sober for the next 24 hours.

You can do this one day at a time!!!
