Going to a party tonight again :-/

Good evening my good friends,

Tonight I am being tested again, well tested is probably the wrong word. I'd like to think of it more of putting myself out.

I have absolutely no interest in drinking whatsoever, with that I also have absolutely no interest in partying either. I'd much prefer a night in watching the TV with a bottle of chilled water and an Indian takeaway.

Having said that though, there is no escape from this party this evening. It is a very good friends wedding anniversary party and my wife and the kids are also in attendance. My wife isn't much of a drinker either so we are going to both be sitting there waiting for a reasonable time to sneak off from the drinking mass majority who will be there.

Have a good sober evening everyone,

Bruno.

sometimes we can't get out of a function . Ive said NO to quite a few and the ones I did go to I made a sharp exit when the dancing and real boozing started .
Your plan sounds good to quietly make an exit when the time is right .
It was my daughters 33rd birthday on Thurs and the party was outdoors thanks to the unusually good weather . I was head cook , paddling pool filler,BBQ tosser , baker , sandwich maker, baby walker , first aider , errand goer. This is what I do to keep away from the main body of boozers . In actual fact out of 9 adults 4 weren't drinking . I had a super time , BUT will admit that I DID have a spell of about 20 minutes where I felt " I wish I was like them " but it passed .

I am off on holiday 5 weeks today so this was a test for me also .

Enjoy yourself and your family time Bruno! Going to functions like this whilst sober really gives you a new perspective (even some surprising new opportunities for fun). You might even stay longer than you think, it could be so enjoyable!

Bruno

There's only one thing you have to do tonight. And that's stay sober. Early on I stayed away away from these events.

But if you must be there, have an exit plan, my friend. Best time to slip out is when everyone gets into their second drinks. By that time you've made contact with the main players. And they're in party mode.

ah weddings aren't bad at all. There's zero pressure to drink there.
You'll do just fine

Thanks for the messages,

We are here now and looking to escape around 10pm, It's 8.30pm now. I've had a bit of pressure from my old drinking buddies to have a beer but the Diet Coke is going down well

If you need to leave just leave. You can pick your family up when they are ready. Also be aware of a delayed reaction. I have seen many many people make it through the drinking event only to relapse a few days later

How far into your sobriety are you now, Bruno? I'm at 173 days...just trying to get some perspective...

That's it all done and dusted,

I'm very nearly a month in now and feeling great,

We left 10 mins ago and now we are home and ready for an early night for a day trip out to the seaside tomorrow morning

Gotta stay away from those friends who would pressure you into drinking. I have a group of friends who I met in middle school and throughout my addiction they stopped hanging out with me. Over the years my drinking continued to escalate. I have gained these friends back through my sobriety. These friends today would never encourage any of my drinking because they know how much trouble alcohol has caused me in my life and how much I would be throwing away if I picked up that first drink.

leave if if you have a craving to drink, I have walked out of parties many times to get fresh air or have left early when the drinking would get out of hand
