The ebb and flow of recovery
The ebb and flow of recovery
The last two weeks in my now more than three month sobriety have been the hardest. I had a little pity party feeling sorry for myself that socials are no longer fun. I started to get itchy with AA not really fitting in.
Despite this I never considered drinking. That is a huge positive.
Today I experienced a turning point. Went for a hike with pre-sobriety friends followed by a long country lunch. The hike re-inforced the importance of better health and I enjoyed the company at lunch. Being the only non-drinker was sort of irrelevant.
Sobriety is a lot like golf. The more time one spends on the fairways the less likely one is to duff a shot. Some courses will play more difficult than others. Some days the swing will click and other days not. Key is to stick with the grip, swing, clubs and balls that work and to practice doing the right things.
It will never be perfect, but it will be good more times than not.
