Here I go again...

Two weeks sober tomorrow.

Two weeks ago Sunday was the culmination of a process that's lasted several years since I gave up drinking for a year in 2008 and started slowly again in 2009.

The last two years drinking has gone from a couple of times a week to every other day, two weeks ago I went out with friends and got drunk, the next day I carried on and did something that I don't normally do, on top of beers drunk half a bottle of whiskey, got in my car and drove a couple of hundred metres determined to 'run away from home', realised what an idiot I was being and went home, posted something deeply important to me on a website that I now regret. Woke up with the mother of all hangovers and decided that enough was enough. Its not been easy but only really had one extended period of craving mixed in with a whole heap of irritability!

Welcome back to sobriety.
Sounds like you are ready now.
I relate for I returned to running with the liquid devil.
I'm a drunk so you know how well that worked.
Stick around this is a much better life for us.

Hi Edward, I knew I was really in trouble at least five years ago, probably before that really. Without getting into details of all my attempts, I wish I had stopped sooner. For me it was the cravings after the "pink cloud" that always got me. It sound so cliched but it really does get better. Congrats on two weeks keep it going and wlcome

Time after time, after time here....we read of this...

clean for X....

tried to moderate....worked for X....

daily drinker again for X....

Made a huge mistake during a binge on X....

I am really going to stop this time...

The drug addiction is progressive for us. I can not drink like normal people.

Sobriety is my only hope. Finding contentment in that is the only way.

Otherwise, I am doomed.

Thanks for the post.

Your story has been told before. I would suggest a sobriety plan that encompasses real change

5 weeks sober now

To be honest Dee, I dont have a plan at the moment. Trying not to eat too much sugar, trying to exercise, avoiding dangerous situations, camomile tea. Its early stages yet I know. Within the next couple of weeks Ill look to see about getting some external support.

All those are fine things Edward - but most of that doesn't really deal specifically with addiction or drinking?

I'm not pushing you to AA or any other specific recovery method,. but there are some good ideas here
