Thumbs up *Ring Ring* Weekender August 12th Part 1

*Ring Ring*

What does it mean? In the words of Mecanix...

“The first bell is the bell of mindfulness, calling to me and you.

It says stop what am i doing right now, take some breaths, feel my body, am I holding it tight and tense? Relax… calm down… life is a journey and not a destination, make the journey as glorious as possible.

The second bell is the freedom bell and I'm ringing it for you to let you know freedom from drink and drugs is available to you, come and hear us calling out to you.”

Mindfulness. For many it's the key to sanity. The slowing down of our minds just enough to think through a craving. Think through a fight. Think through a hurt.

What seems to be the common thing here. Hmmmmm... Yes. Slow down enough to "think through" what ever we are facing.

I used to come and post here saying how fast it all happened. Before I knew it I hand a drink in had and a crack pipe hanging off my lip chasing puffs of smoke in the air. Crazy.

Cravings happen fast but they can leave just as quickly. Mindfulness is a way to usher them to the door and kick them in the ass as they leave. Yes you can say ass on here.

I would love for the weekenders to share with me what kind of mindfulness is in your sober routines.

I have a special meditation chair. It doubles to allow me a place to tie my shoes and people visiting think that's what it's for but it really is my spot. Set aside for me to spend just a few moment each day before work or when I get upset to sit. Close my eyes. And stop for just a moment.

*Ring Ring*

A pause button is an amazing thing.

Welcome to your sober weekend!!!

I'm spreading this around too cos people forget it when they need it - there's an emergency SR back up forum here:

Bookmark the link just in case?

Morning Lunar!

Thanks Dee

The back up site is a better board than this old BBcode one. Quite nice really. At least there is a male female sign on the profile to prevent folks from thinking you are a girl.

Talking

Picked up (5) baby Rhopalurus junceus,
otherwise commonly known as
the Orange Cuban Scorpion.
Didn't realize how small the scorplings
would be when received.
For all those interested:
Cute or what?

Wow Lunar they are tiny! Let's get the simple question out of the way before everyone asks. Can they hurt you if stung?

Yes... Cute!!!

<Best policeman voice> Evenin', all.

Beautiful intro, as ever. My mindfulness is to try and think of a couple of things each night that I've been grateful for that day. I try to log them on the bedtime thread here, but I'm not always good at remembering to check in just before bed. I always try to think of something, though, and preferrably something better in my life because of excluding alcohol.

I've just realised something amazing: I've not thought about drinking all day. Not once. At all. Wanna hear something even more amazing? I've not thought about recovery all day, either. Until I decided to login here, obviously. I take this as a good sign. A few weeks ago, when I was stressing that I was spending too much time thinking about whether I spend too much time thinking about not drinking, I was reassured that it was normal and I'd get to a happier place, where not drinking is a norm and doesn't occupy as much of your thoughts as it once did. I guess I'm getting there. And the real icing on the cake? Today I've hit 100 days sober. Cool thing to achieve on such a milestone. Feels kinda auspicious.

So this weekend, I'm celebrating by treating myself to some posh tea and a china teacup and saucer for my new job. Woo hoo!! That's genuine excitment, folks. Sober is beginning to suit me, if I do say so myself.

I'm on.

I function often in a very automatic, habitual way, often lost in thoughts, worries or daydreams. My challenge this weekend will be to stay more present, maybe try to be mindful when I am carrying out house chores or driving the car.

Flossy that's awesome news!!!! Congrats on 100 and being kind to yourself.

I had that kind of day yesterday. I was watching TV about 8pm and realized I had zero thoughts of drinking or anything related. I was thrilled as you are!

Good to see you join in the weekender!
