What the title says does it drain the vitamin B from your system? Its probably why I get some memory loss. Also would taking vitamin b while trying to quit be a good idea?

diuretic, it draws all water soluble vitamins out. Usually when I drank I didn't eat or ate poorly, that's bad too. I take C also.

B vitamins help with the malnutrition that often accompanies alcoholism, as well as maintenance of the Central Nervous System. When I was in the ICU for 6 days during my detox I was on a B Vitamin complex drip for at least three days. B1 (Thiamin) in particular is vital as it's absence can contribute to "Wet Brain" Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome. I was sent home with B1, 100 mgs. I bought more at the drugstore when they were gone. Folic Acid is often paired with the Bs.

It depletes some of the B vitamins, the ones the body can store, from your system, and stops you absorbing others from food, which you need regularly as they cannot be stored by the body. Here are the B vitamins
thiamin (vitamin B1)
riboflavin (vitamin B2)
niacin (vitamin B3)
pantothenic acid
vitamin B6
biotin (vitamin B7)
folic acid
vitamin B12

I'm not giving medical advice, just saying that vitamin B12 is linked to memory (Allegedly)

I've heard this as well. I take a multi-vitamin (it has several B-vitamins), but I discussed it with my doctor. I am pretty sure there is a standalone "B-complex" multivitamin that is loaded with everything B. Talk to your doc about it.

But it won't matter how many B vitamin supplements you are taking or vitamin B rich food you are eating while you are still drinking. Alcohol blocks absorption of a great deal of it.

I found that I was deficient in pretty much everything good- potassium, vit B, iron, you name it. I was drinking SEVERELY. I think anyone who is an alcoholic, which means you are drinking some amount of "a lot" isn't retaining the nutrients we need. Even when we eat healthily (which for some of us wasn't much- I was barely eating at all by the end so what I did was usually just something I could get down around the vodka) we are not retaining the good stuff.

If you are drinking, I hope you stop. If you aren't, please go see a doctor and tell him/her your symptoms and worries and be honest about your consumption (now, and before you quit if you're sober). You can recover a balance in your body- I got retested for everything (including liver enzymes which were drastically high in my case) around 4 mo and was smack in the middle of where you need to be on all tests.

Good luck.

Alcohol I found did a lot more than affect my nutrient absorption.

There's no way to cheat alcohol, it affects many things in the human body which can't be compensated for.

If it's affecting your life in a negative way, abstinence I found to be a great solution!!
