Could somebody point me in the right direction please?
Could somebody point me in the right direction please?
I am looking for links on the following:
Making a recovery plan
How to get thru cravings
The alcoholic voice (AV)
I am on day 6 and the obsessive thoughts keep going thru my mind. I keep thinking, "let me just get thru today, and I can always drink tomorrow if I "need" to." Well, thankfully I have gotten thru this whole week. It feels good, but weird honestly. I'm not sure how to live sober because never really have (except during my 2 pregnancies). Just wanted to have some reading to get me thru tonight.

I can help with the first two:
recovery plans- what they are are how to make them:
http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...ery-plans.html
tips to deal with cravings:
http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...-cravings.html
with the 'AV', although a lot of us have come to use the term, it's really one of the basic ideas of Rational Recovery, and AVRT (Addictive Voice Recognition Technique).
There's a lot of reading and threads on AVRT in our Secular Connections forum
Secular Connections - SoberRecovery : Alcoholism Drug Addiction Help and Information
Freshstart's thread might be a good place to start?

Google "rational recovery pdf" and read some links, I find them very helpful. You can probably get a free AA Big Book online if you type it in. You can listen to it on audio type in "free Big Book audio"

Also google AA meetings in your area. Pick one and go - TODAY.
I also found that as I was physically able (I was VERY sick when I quit in Feb and was mostly just trying to get through each day), setting to-dos for my day was helpful. Also, many people say to re-create your schedule- ex, if you used to drink in the late afternoon/early evening, put another activity in that time slot.
Now is indeed time for a plan. Good luck!

You may wish to consider.
Getting a copy of the AA Big Book (available on line)
it explains our condition and a recovery plan so well.
Many have sobered up in their local churches.
Coming to this site many, many times each day has helped me to stay sober.
And helping an occasional one is a blessing -- I'm grateful.

Hi Bronzie,
Welcome! If you enjoy reading Anna has compiled a list of books on recovery. A few of my favorite are:
Diary of an Alcoholic Housewife
Drinking a Love Story and
Blackout
SR had been my biggest support, especially the January class. Have you popped in on the August thread yet? If not, that would be another great resource, having the support of others at the same point in their sobriety journey has been so helpful for me.
Glad you are here!

I was also completely sober through my pregnancies, it's amazing isn't it that we can without question quit drinking when we have to for our babies but can't seem to do this for ourselves? That was my experience anyways.. Oh I'm pregnant no more drinking..no problem. Crazy

I feel like the cravings come and go. I haven't gone a full week without drinking in over a year. I just have to remember that the cravings will pass and to stay strong and focused! It won't be easy, but we can do this! Whenever a thought of alcohol goes thru your head, just toss it aside and think about something else, or do something else. I know if I obsess and dwell on it, it will eventually take over.
