Almost slipped...
Almost slipped...
Had to go on business trip today... Just got here this evening and staying overnight for a meeting tomorrow.
On the way, I started fantasizing about having a drink. Or better yet grab a bottle and have a couple drinks in my room.
I actually, was in the liquor store with a pint of Vodka in my hand !
Waited in line .. Then my turn to pay. So I reached in my back pocket and then.... I told told the clerk I forgot my wallet (while my hand was on my wallet all the time).
Oh man.... So grateful.
I'm back at hotel.. Not leaving the room!

Well done pulling yourself back from the brink.
If you can stop yourself that close to going over the edge, then you have proven to yourself you have the strength to overcome even the most serious cravings and temptation.

Old drinking routines are hard. You get so used to doing certain things in a certain order that you activate the autopilot when you face it. Now you need to shake up your routine to combat that. Are there things that you can do to break the routine up?
Work travel is weird for me too. I went on my first work trip last week since I got sober (four months and change) and my AV roared at me while in a really nice restaurant that had an extensive wine list. This is a new job for me, and I've had to tell coworkers "no thanks" several times now when offered a drink.
Sitting at that restaurant, my AV was saying "ah, one glass of good wine! You'll just go back to the hotel and sleep! No big deal!"
I drank water and just really got into the food - then the craving passed.
Don't you like being perceived as a non-drinker? I think it's very professional - not to mention, it's a slippery slope, boundaries-wise, when you drink with co workers. (Just my opinion)

That is a great and inspiring achievement. I suspect one or more of us will remember this story when we find ourselves fighting through a similar situation. Reminds me that it is never too late to turn back from that first drink.
OP here... I made it through the night without drinking!
What a feeling to wake up sober....
So the final reason why I didn't drink?
I played the tape forward to today's business meeting. In my job, I need my confidence and need to speak in front of a group. If I would have drank last night .. I know I would have regretted it is morning ..
Feeling good.

Well done MR! That's a huge and strong step you took!
I had a similar thing happen yesterday (since we are in the August group together I thought you might be interested). 3rd day sober, was cleaning my room and moving a suitcase from a vacation last month. I opened it to find 3 full bottles of beer. I must've hidden them in there last weekend and forgotten. The urge came over me so strong "A hidden treasure!" My brain automatically went there, because that's what I would have thought any other day. And we all know 3 beers would be a tease so I'd have to go buy more.
But I took them and poured them out.
I also woke up sober today. Go us
