Remembering those -- I drank too much road trips
I have been sober for a few years now and still remember how hard it was to (try) and keep my alcohol level just below the .08 legal limit as we were taking road trips -- vacations. Usually driving motor homes with Jeeps being towed behind or pulling some type of trailer. Yes, stoned and drinking to the max and as a fool, driving down the highways.
One again -- a fool is one who fools themself.
Plenty of that went on when I was drinking for those many years.
Well, it's 5:42 AM on this nice calm Saturday morning and our travel trailer is hooked up and ready to go and in a short while we will be heading out for a few days to Idyllwild. It's nice knowing that there will be no drama or visits by the Highway Patrol today brought on by my excessive drinking and driving.
I crashed many a vehicle in my life and I thank God that no one was killed. Note -- I can't say, that never was anyone hurt. It's terrible what the drunk can do on the road.
A nice safe sober trip wished for all,
M-Bob

Have a fun and safe trip. This reminds of something that I heard on the radio this morning regarding an alcohol checkpoint that the police will be setting up on one of our major streets this evening. In the past, I would have made a serious mental note of this and not gone anywhere close to that part of town. It's liberating to be able to get in the car and drive anywhere without the fear of getting stopped with that open can of beer in the console. Or having to map out those back roads when driving home from the bar. Thanks for the post MBob. I can't wait until I can say that I've been sober for a few years. I have started the trip and will meet you down the road.
Sober road trips are great now.
I remember one (before) where I was so hungover I reclined the seat and covered myself in a blanket way up over my head, trying to sleep but unable to due to the pounding in my chest. Memories.
