Helping Others Helps Me

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this so if it needs to be moved please do so.

How many of you feel when you reply to other members posts that it is like therapy for yourself?

Posting seems to really have a positive effect on me. Giving encouragement to others feeds my fire of wanting to stay on track and away from drugs.

I mean I know I'm not the smartest guy with all the answers but I certainly do try to be positive in any way that I can.

Anyone else feel the same way? Is this a good thing?

Sharing my own ESH - experiences, strengths
and hopes honestly of what my life was
and is like before, during and after alcohol
with others in recovery definitely gives me
a boost in my own personal life and sobriety.

It was explained to me in early recovery
and thru the 12 step program taught to
me that If I wanted to keep my sobriety
and all the wonderful gifts received in
my life thus so far, then I need to pass it on.

Whether I share about my program
or about something fun like watching
golf or flowers, birds, music, just having
other folks living their life in recovery
like I am makes life fun, interesting and
happy.

Sharing is definitely a good positive thing.

I like coming here and giving back the awesome support and friendship I was so freely given when I was new. It helps me to stay sober and I have developed some wonderful friendships with people all over the world.

Yes, I certainly feel the same way. Reading and posting got me through early sobriety. Took my mind off myself and my cravings.

Happy you're here, EBIII.

Yes, EB - I felt my anxiety lessen when I started interacting here. I was only going to stop by briefly - but that was almost 9yrs. ago. I never left. We're glad to have you part of us.

I feel the same way as well. Even if I'm not posting a response and just thanking someone who has.

I've only been a member here for 4 days and I honestly feel like I have been here for a long time.

Seeing all of you folks posting to me how they are happy I'm here or they are glad I found this place means a lot to me already and the funny thing is I don't even know anyone.

I really am grateful for SR and all of the people I have met.

Reading everything is starting to make me believe in myself.

Thank you all so much for making me feel so welcome.

It helped me so much to help others as much as I could right away... in whatever way I could. I really believe it's therapeutic to help others. It's also so important to come here and read what others are experiencing and how they're handling things... because we can get loads of insight, inspiration, and wisdom from others as well.

I really find it helpful and I think all of us here can understand what quitting
and rebuilding our lives after alcohol in such a powerfully empathetic way
that our sharing can really be life-changing for others, and ourselves.

Glad you are here and have joined the team EB

Yes, it's very good for the soul to help others. I find it inspirational for my own recovery as well.
