Mike's Accountability Thread

Hi everyone.

I decided to start a thread that I will post in daily to keep myself accountable.

Today is day one. It's about 7:30 PM here, and this is when I usually start pouring a drink and drink until I fall asleep.

Not today.

I had the urge to drink as I was driving home earlier. That urge seems to have subsided. I'm about to eat a big meal to fill me up and stay close to SR throughout the evening.

I want to be sober for good. And it starts now.

Mike

Inside Job
By Pearl Jam

Underneath this smile lies everything
All my hopes and anger, pride and shame
Make myself a pact not to shut doors on the past
Just for today I am free

I will not lose my faith
It's an inside job today

I know this one thing well
I used to try and kill love. the highest sin
Breathing insecurity out and in

Searching hope, I'm shown the way to run straight
Pursuing the greater way for all human light.

How I choose to feel is how I am.
How I choose to feel is how I am.

I will not lose my faith
It's an inside job today

Holding on, the light of night
On my knees to rise and fix my broken soul
Again

Let me run into the rain
To be a human light again

Let me run into the rain
To shine a human light today

Life comes from within your heart and desire
Life comes from within my heart and desire
Life comes from within your heart and desire

You got this. If you're antsy, bored, etc - just go to bed. You can win this, but we all start with Day 1. Go to sleep and you'll be on Day 2 before you know it.

Thanks SoberLeigh it feels good to be pursuing the sober life again!

Thanks bigsombrero I'm feeling pretty good. Not antsy but maybe a little bored. Starting to get tired so I'll probably head to bed soon.

Can't wait to wake up sober!

Guitarist Mike McCready had a problem with alcohol, and he has won his battle against it. That song is about his journey.

Day 2!
I have never woke up sober/not hung over and wished I had drank
the night before. This is 100% true, 100% of the time.

That's my favorite quote from this forum and that runs through my head anytime I consider having a beer.

Amen to that WW. I woke up sober this morning, hangover free. And even though it was a pretty deary day here, I feel 10000 times better and more energized than I would if I had drank last night.

What are your plans if/when urges strike? Day 3 is when some people tend to want to cave. I know I did anyway.

Do you have a list of things you'll do instead of drink?

Do you know about techniques like Urge Surfing, Playing the Tape, and so on?

And the beautiful thing is that will always be true, every day for the rest of your life. Think about that whenever the urge strikes. You're in Day 3, a dangerous place. Keep thinking about that man.

I think he should treat himself to his favorite meal, get full & satisfied. Like Chinese food? Head to your favorite buffet and eat your body weight of it. Get full & happy, and don't feel a bit bad about it. You're still saving calories compared to drinking alcohol.
