No rolling rock at the store

I came dangerously close to drinking. I have had a major upset at work regarding my retirement fund. I won't get what I was planning on, and I am too old to hunt another job. I have been upset for days, and today I was at the store and stopped in the liquor isle. I wanted a cold rolling rock beer so bad. I went to buy a 12 pack, but strangely the shelf was empty. There was plenty of other beers, but no rolling rock. I bought some diet coke and came home. I feel better now, but I am shocked that the urge was so strong. I have been sober over 5 months. This scared me.

I'm really glad you didn't drink Jim.
Have you thought about other healthier ways you might deal with the uncertainty and disappointments at work?

Congrats on five months sober! I'm glad you didn't drink. I have never woken up sober and wished that I had drank the night before.

^^^ I love this! I have woken up many mornings full of self loathing, shame, shakes, pain, regret, sweat, severe anxiety, (insert other negative descriptor here) when I drank, however. Life is better sober

It's great you didn't drink, Jim. I second the congrats on 5 months!

Thanks everyone! I am glad I got past the urge. I went for a walk and I feel better. I know if I had drank one I would be wasted right now. I also have never regretted not drinking. I realize that upsets can trigger me, and this was a big one. I am glad I can turn to SR in times of hardship 👍

Do you have a program of some sort you are following or just not drinking? Great job getting out of the store. Sounds like someone was giving you a sign that this was not a time to drink! Always nice to have the numbers of some like minded folks when those moments hit you.

Hi Jim,

I am glad you didn't drink, and I hope they completely stop selling Rolling Rocks!

I'm sorry about your retirement plan, I know money is always one of my biggest stressors. Is there a financial planner you can talk to? Maybe they can help you figure out the best path.

Stick close to SR if you are feeling any urges.

Hi Jim, I think sometimes that is a saving grace. I only drank one type of booze, and if it wasn't available I preferred not to drink at all. Well, that booze is no longer allowed under this roof. Therefore, I haven't drank in a long time. I try to pretend they no longer make that kind of booze, and as silly as it is, it works and I'm not questioning it.

That would scare the heck out of me too.
Best for us not to entertain the thought of drinking.
I have found that when I do I drink.

Keeping the mind focused on good healthy things
to be of most importance.

Glad you didn't drink. Remember SR is here 24/7 when those thoughts do come up. Sometimes just letting them out into the open out of your own head is enough to keep you from making that trip to the store. Wishing you the best today!

Glad you didnt settle for another alcoholic beverage. Its good that you posted here and keep posting and talk about your feelings about your setback with your retirement fund. Talking helps and you will find some great insight here and possible solutions.
