Support Needed

Hi,
I am 29 years old and believe I have a drink problem and really want to knock it on the head as soon as possible.
I don't need a drink to get me out of bed in the morning and do not count myself as alcohol dependent, but when I drink usually at weekends I don't stop!
Any help or advise would be welcome to help me lead a sober life going forward.
Thanks

Welcome to the family. In order to stay sober you must want to be sober more than you want to drink. SR will help you get to that point. There's lots of support and good ideas here.

Good to meet you, L123. You came to a great place for encouragement.

I only drank on the weekends for years. I was never in control once it was in my system. Over the years I began drinking more often - then every day. I'm so glad you're taking a look at what it's doing to your life.

Welcome, you'll find loads of support here. My advise is.... just don't pick up that first drink! All you need is not drink for today. Thats all you have to do. Repeat that tomorrow, then the next. Its easier to break it down into a day by day plan. Ive done that and Im 215 days sober now, amazing what a day at a time can mount up to!!

I would suggest that you do seek support, from AA, a counsellor etc. Lots of people in AA aren't the typical stereotyped hard core alcoholics, some are as you describe binge drinkers whom too want to stop and stay stopped. Whatever stage your drinking problem is at AA can help x

Welcome, I'm glad you have decided to deal with your drinking problem. Alcoholism is progressive and will worsen unless you stop drinking. We are here to offer support.

Awesome job listening to your gut and thinking of doing something about your drinking now. Many of us started as weekend bingers...

You'll learn a lot here. I have

I never drank in the morning unless you count 2am. Never drank to make it through the day. Never got drunk Everytime I drank. Usually I drank 2 to 4 times a week, most of time I would get too drunk. I drank like that for 35 years and racked up 5 DUi's.

By alcohol dependent do you mean DT's when quitting? Never had that. I did notice I drank more as the years went on, it's a progressive thing.

Welcome
