Addict behavior is addict behavior
I recently did something completely out of character for me, and I paid the price emotionally and physically. What I did does not matter (I did not drink). But let's just say I learned a valuable lesson. It was the kind of behavior I engaged in when I was in my 20's. The only one hurt was me. It made me take a personal inventory of myself and realize that if I want to achieve the goals I have set for myself before I die, they will not happen being foolish and engaging in decadent behavior.
I have recovered from the shame and am refocused.
Lastly, I have chosen a new career that requires some schooling and licensing. I start on July 5th. It will be tough the first year as any new business is, but the ceiling on income is potentially very high, which is one reason I chose it. The other reason being that I have been accepted into an elite group of individuals in this industry, and am honored they are accepting me to be part of their team. Hope everyone is having a good day.

Great job on refocusing Jeff. The new job / profession sounds really good. You've been in the self-employed world for a long time. I'm glad things are shaping up for you professionally.
Good job on not drinking through this lesson. Bottom line, things fall into place as long as we are sober.

I think now that you've got a concrete objective and path chosen to get there,
you'll find things even out--
I think you and I are the same in that we need something to do
and perhaps "be-ing" is a bit tougher.
Glad you are re-focused on what addictive behavior is.
I find it turning up in many non-drinking areas of life as well. . .
Good luck on your new vocation!

Hi Jeff,
The new job sounds very promising! Will you be going to school and working simultaneously, or do you need to complete the classes first?
Whatever happened is in the past, you sound ready to move on. Hope this is the beginning of many good things for you!

Congrats on the new job opportunity! Part of recovery is constantly pushing ourselves forward and bettering ourselves so we reach our full potential and get to a place where you don't have to always go "what if".
I too have found myself exhibiting addict behavior without actually using. Some old habits die hard such as telling a lie even though you don't have to, being sneaky, isolating, hiding items, over taking medicine (I sometimes find myself taking 5 Advil instead of 2.. because "oh 2 won't do anything"), etc. It doesn't matter what you did, as long as you have learned something from it and move forward
