Yay! Thomas you have come so far. Just 30 days ago, I had a week or something ....I remeber your posts so well because I related so much. Seems like we're both in such a different place. A much better one. Congrats.

I know only too well that I must never get complacent or forget what happened after that first drink .Like so many I thought I would be fine with a couple of beers . The beer turned into the worst 6 day vodka binge of my life and me begging for help . I will never ever get smug , too comfortable in sobriety , I must be on guard always . I remind my self of this excerpt from How it works in the Big book "Remember that we deal with alcohol—cunning, baffling, powerful! Without help it is too much for us .
I pray for those of us in very early days of sobriety that you keep going for it is so worth it . I pray for those of us who are struggling with anxiety and temptation that you find peace within .
Thanks

I wrote my post not long after midnight at work and now I'm home . Upon reading it again I sense a feeling of seriousness and some sadness even though I am delighted at my 31 days sober . I think that is because IT IS a serious business and needs serious commitment . I can never go through that again not ever ,I feel a real shift in my consciousness this time , I feel at last I have "got it ". OK thats that said and I'm happy . Heres what I find funny today , it's my wifes birthday and I bought 2 tickets for her and my daughter to go to a show last night ( That will be the day musical ) , they had a brilliant time and guess what ? shes in bed with a hangover lol , but her hangover is just a normal drinkers hangover and she will be fine about 10 am after some food and liquid .
Of course she wont be waiting outside the shop at 9:55 waiting on 10:00 coming( thats licencing hours in UK) to buy some more of what gave her the hangover . I f she was I would call her insane , YET ! this is what I would be doing . ..... Thats the difference and that IS why I wont ever pick up that first drink .
Thanks again

So true Thomas. Oh so many mornings staring at the clock and waiting for the witching hour. Driving to the store and feeling so horrid. Ugh.
I think I understand the 'shift' you're speaking of. I have had it before...the trick for me is staying there. Its a daily commitment.
