Exclamation Stay Sober Here - All welcome - Weekender June 3

Yes. That's a blatant call out to you.

"You" might be a newcomer to SR or the weekender. "You" might be a lurker not yet signed up on SR. "You" might be a pop-in checking things out periodically. Or..."You" might be a weekender staple. All "You's" are welcome here.

It's often asked what is the weekender all about? What do we do on this thread each week?

I will use the words of Mecanix
"It's a muster call, let people touch base , sometimes in sobriety there is nothing to say and you don't want to share , so it's ok to post here and say "i'm in" so you are engaging even in a light way .

It's a call for mindfulness ,

it's a bit of a place to come and say hi if the rest of the newcomers area seems a bit harrowing , as it sometimes is when people are in the midst of a full on fight with their addictions .

It was partly to show people that sober weekends are possible and that there are things to do when you are sober that are , fun , touching , painful , loving , challenging . difficult , easy , interesting and boring .

It's something to read thats a bit different from the normal .. when i first came to SR it was a lifeline but one which used to make me emotionally unstable with reading about others plight , so this is just one thread to offer a bit of warmth and a safe haven."

Consider this... A wise teacher teaches through approach, not avoidance. He doesn't emphasize what you must avoid to escape from harm, but what you need to learn to have joy.

Welcome to the weekender. Welcome to your sober weekend!

shotgun

like I said last night

wise words for Mecanix.
I just want to add something, if you are struggling and contemplating taking a drink, you must get permission from this thread before you pick up the drink.

just woke up and had a hunch

funny, I was just thinking about that rabbit and getting out there before the sun rise to be ready... I mowed the lawn last night, hopefully all I have to do is put out a homemade scent repellent... I might just set a trap anyway, I caught one last time they I planted turnips,,, and the turnips are about 3 inches high already... no coffee today... I'm awake ... some interesting dreams last night - fueled by ice cream no doubt...

oh, Ruby, yesterday there was definite evidence I caught some kind of bug... a little tight throat and some coughing

sorry to hear about your mom Jen, hope everything is okay
and your son Ruby,
good job on squashing the AV Melina,
now if MLD could just teleport me two muffins, I'll be set for the morning - and then I'll have to make coffee...
thanks for the congrats Trees, though not necessary, but now, the question of the day... who was the first ever person to call shotgun on the weekender thread?

good call on getting an extended weekend Mex...

I'm on. Or in.

Better catch that rabbit, LB.
This guys garden got wiped out last year by one, til he caught it.
The rabbit being so well-fed was then, well, er--, never mind.

Oven baked bacon.

Cleaned out my closet and chest of drawers.

4 piles of clothes:
  • Donations
  • Good enough for gym / home
  • Good for out and work
  • Too many memories attached to get ride of. Hold another year.

BLT's for lunch!!!

Im in! I may not be able to get to a meeting until Sunday, which is a bit daunting.

Finding a balance between those and family life can be difficult.

Glad to be here, Day 6. Looking forward to a sober weekend!

Welcome, FindingCake!
What are your plans for the weekend? Having a solid plan is really important early on. Especially if you're having trouble getting to meetings. Stick close to the weekender. It tends to move pretty fast, but don't feel like you have to keep up with the banter. If you're struggling, check in and we will drop everything to help!

so I was planting flowers in my hanging 'baskets' outside. mixed up some mix, started potting... when what to my wondering eyes should appear... a chipmunk sneaking around about 4 baseball bats distance away... so I dropped everything and put on my varmint eradicator hat... a walnut with honey dripped on it should do the trick

then decided on breakfast - oats, blueberries, walnuts with honey... and realized I picked up artificial everything hazelnut creamer - so I made a pot of joe...

I activated my new kostko credit card but for the life of me I can't find out what "qualified gas purchase" means... do I have to drive the 30 miles to get gas from kostco - if so not worth it - or does joe's gas down the block count? anybody?

this is me today...
