Hello I'm new here.
Wanted to introduce myself. My last drink was Sunday may 29th. I've been drinking pretty consistently for the past 20+ years. (I'm an alcoholic) I come from a long line of alcoholics, my parents were active in AA throughout my childhood, I've been to thousands of meetings in my lifetime and am familiar with the 12 steps. I need to start going to meetings, but I can't seem to make that first step of actually going.

Unfortunately no my parents aren't around, and my drinking pretty much eliminated my ability to make friends. That's a good suggestion from scott. I'm going to be off this weekend. I need to do this. Thanks for the replies, it really helps alot.

I went to my first meeting after 7 years on Tuesday. It really helped. I felt like a wounded dog with my tail between my legs walking into that room, but man it felt good. I even talked (more like blubbered). I surprised myself by talking. I was on day 2 when I went. Now I need to go again....It's effing tough. Hang in there. Most people have been around the tables several times, but yeah that first meeting is hard. Do you know someone from AA that will go with you? That was my push. I reached out to a girl I used to go with all the time and she held my hand through the meeting. You can do it. You can.
