So you don't think you'll ever be free?

Then set aside thinking, just for a while.

Connect with the soul within.

Connect with the child.

Instead of thinking - envision.

See a moment in your life, when your childself was new and simple and living in wonder, discovery, joy.

All you need is one moment.... one moment is enough.

SEE That moment.

FEEL that moment.

BE that moment.

Anchor yourself in that moment and then carry it with you.

Hold that childself.

Tell that childself you're there for them.

Invite them into your life of Now.

Know that they are You.

And then when the thoughts try to take over again, bring forth that knowing, that image, that seeing, that feeling, that BEING.

Bring forth the awareness that FREE is your natural state. That JOY is the place into which you were born. That well before there was ever alcohol or needles or powders or pills or smoke-filled lungs; there was simple beauty.

That You is not gone. That YOU is here with you right now and always. Take that You by the hand and be a team in Today.

So I'm glad someone else uses this technique. I posted about this in another thread....its the 'safe' place concept. It works.

I know, Kaily.... all to well.

But even amid that horror, in childhood we all experienced at least glimpses of what I'm talking about. Perhaps for those of us whose childhood was punctuated with trauma, this idea is most critical of a!

A lot of my own healing has come from connecting with the free, innocent, joyful child in me and becoming his ally, spokesman, defender and loving friend.

Hey Kaily
I completely understand. And I'm sorry for your trauma. I had to dig really deep to find a memory that was completely safe. On top of that, I barely remember my childhood. I have blocked most of it out. I was the youngest of 5, all boys, in a crazy household. I rarely felt safe. But I had my own room because I was the only girl. I was safe when I was alone.

If this idea doesn't work for you you can 'create' a safe place. It doesn't have to be grounded in fact.

Some Zen teachers call what you are referring to the original state, or Big Mind, or enlightenment - in other words not small, selfish, ego centered thinking, but a state of openness and curiosity that existed before we started dividing the world up into good and bad with our thinking.
