Need concrete steps for today's craving

Sober 17 days. Huge stress plus a trigger incident. Must get work done, must focus at Charity meeting tonight, must stay sober. I bought vodka. A tiny bottle and I have not opened it. It's in my purse.

I know it will solve nothing and lead to all the pain and regret I do not want again.

Looking for concrete ideas for today only. Still working my plan.

Step One: Pour that vodka down the sink and throw away the bottle.
Step Two: Identify if you feel one or a combination of these things: hungry? angry? lonely? tired?
Step Three: If you're hungry, eat something delicious. Angry? Figure out the root cause and try to address it. Etc
Step Four: There's a link to "urge surfing" which is tremendously helpful - I believe it's in the sticky section at the top of the newcomers' section of the site. Check it out.

assuming your plan is based on NOT DRINKING, get rid of the booze. do it NOW.

take some deep breaths, and tell yourself you CAN get thru today, in fact you can get thru ANYTHING life throws at you. and you shall do so SOBER.

Step one - throw away the vodka now.

What is your plan? It would help to know regarding what kind of suggestions to give.

Make sure your aren't hungry - eat something if you are. Drink some water too.

Concentrate on the tasks at hand - take a walk or read a book if you need to relax.

Good choice on coming here to talk it through. don't forget someone is always here on SR if you need more support.

Throw the vodka away and think of all the times you've managed to got through events without a drink and nothing majorly bad happened.

If you drink that one tiny bottle, just know that one tiny bottle will become a heck of a lot more. Then you will be back where you started. It is NOT worth it!!! When today is over, you go to sleep and wake up without regret, it will be so worth it.

Is there something that you can cut out of the agenda today? Do you have to attend the charity meeting? Was the trigger event something that happens routinely or was it a surprise?

Toss the vodka away. If it's sitting in your purse, it's just going to keep calling your name. If you throw it out, that is one less temptation.

Then eat something. Buy some ice cream. That really helped me in the beginning.

You can do this. It's great that you reached out. Keep going.

Pour the vodka down the drain. You don't need it and it will only make things worse. Dump it and make a solid plan for recovery. You'll be glad tomorrow if you don't drink today.
