1 year!
Today I can finally say I have not had a drink for an entire year. I first committed to getting sober in June 2014. My life was an absolute train wreck at that time (if anyone is curious, read my early threads/posts), and my future was so uncertain. I was quite strong for a while, made it close to 7 months. But ended up slipping up a few times before recommitting one year ago. This time my plan was stronger, and I would not slip.
There is no magic formula to getting sober, no secret trick that works in each case, but just know that anyone, no matter how low you may have sunk (again, read my early posts), can live a sober and happy life. This website was of great help to me in early sobriety, and even now I still visit the board to read through threads, even if my posting has become very sporadic.
To anyone out there who thinks that a life of drunken misery is your only fate out there, I am here to tell you that it is not. You can do this. You can beat your addiction. That said, I am always vigilant too, because I know this is something I need to monitor and stay on top of for the rest of my life. But 1 year feels like something I can be proud of, and a good start for what is hopefully an entire sober rest of my life.
Thanks again for all who have helped me in the past. And for those struggling, you can do this, it is possible.
