3 years and Need to "Freshen" Things Up

I don't post much on here, but I read almost daily... It's been 3 years and I am starting to feel "stale", so I'm here to see if anyone can air me out...

There is only so much reading, tv, food, brush cat, new hobbies I can do... maybe it's time to volunteer or something? I am not part of the 12 Step program and I just moved and discovered there isn't a meeting within a 50 mile radius...

Any ideas on how I can keep myself on my game?

What about going back to school or doing an online class? Congratulations on 3 years by the way, that is a great accomplishment!

Volunteering has always helped me, help myself. I strongly recommend going that route.

Pick something that peeks your interest. Hospitals are always in need of volunteers. Animal shelters, homeless shelters, food pantries, meals on wheels is an awesome program.

I hope this gives you a few ideas Yankee.

Congrats on three years sober! How about volunteering in your new community? That's a good way to help out and make some new friends also.

I don't share much here because I've learned so much and everyone just seems- wiser? My Plan works for me, it's been working... I don't really have anything original/ helpful to write and most people here beat me to the punch in a MUCH more eloquent, experienced manner...

I don't know that I have ever expressed an original thought here at SR. I am sure that most of the advice that I try to give is simply a product of what others before me have said.

But sometimes simply getting feedback and support is nice. And, for me anyway, I feel better knowing that I am trying to help others.

Anyway, I am glad you checked in. I hope you find the breath of fresh air that you are looking for.

So glad you know that you are feeling "off" and need to focus again on your recovery. We don't want to go back to the lives we used to live. There are meetings on here on Tuesday night's at 9. There are also websites that you can do online AA/NA meetings.

Going back to school and volunteering is the route I am going to keep myself busy. I am at 9 months and am feeling like OK TIME TO GET ON WITH LIFE so I know how your feeling.

Hey if you start a meeting and no one shows up then really your the only one that will know and you can just pretend it never happened. lol. On the other hand TONS of people might show up and you might have created a HUGE resource for people in your area. Maybe a lot of people wish there was a meeting but no one is brave enough to do it.

Whatever you decide to do, CONGRATS ON 3 YEARS! That is amazing

You never know when what you offer here might be exactly what someone needed to hear at that moment.

Volunteer work saved me.

welp, i think it is pretty simple. i think if ya search the www for" how to start an aa meeting"
and/or
ask in the 12 step forum here.

it might take a bit for the meeting to get going and word to get out that theres a new meeting, but im guessing theres people between you and that next closest meeting wishing there was one closer.

Well done on three years. Do you like reading? Maybe there's a subject you'd like to know more about and you could get some books on it. That might lead you into something else you like, such as a hobby or a new job.

Three years is awesome

Have you thought about working? The only thing keeping me hanging on at times.

For me, daily meditation really helps me get centered. I also volunteer at the local food bank, I call it gratitude in action
Speaking of which, some people keep a gratitude list and find it very helpful in helping them look at their recovery and the world with new lenses.

Congrats on 3 years and reaching out before you get complacent.

I rarely have a unique idea either, but that doesn't stop me from chiming in at SR. I also like the idea of starting up a meeting of your own. What's the worst that could happen, it doesn't take off.

Great job on reaching out here!

New England is awesome this time of year. Lots to explore and new adventures are always around the corner. There are a ton of free classes to take online now.
