8 weeks today

Today marks 8 weeks sober. It's not a long time out of my 30 yr drinking career but it is a significant time for someone who has chosen to change their life.
It's been a roller coaster of a ride and I'm grateful I haven't fallen off yet. That is due to the remarkable support from people on SR.
One day at a time

So great! Congrats. How did you do it? I know we are all different but it helps me so much to hear how others have done it. I am coming up on 2 weeks which is usually when I blow it. Thanks!

Jtmlk. 8 weeks is an achievement. I remember when I hit the 2-3 month mark. It was a really big deal. Keep it up!

Jesshonesty- how did I do it, well ..........................
If you read my post entitled "my shame" you will see where it all started- I keep the feelings I had on that night near me when I'm tempted. I also go one day at a time. Posting here is a god send and in the first few weeks I spent hours reading others posts and responding to them. I went to a couple of AA meetings which helped me feel not alone but I don't believe in the disease model but think my poor life choices led me to where I got to with alcohol and only I can find the inner strength to take my own decisions.
I'm quite a visual person and have a leather and metal bracelet which is engraved with my date of sobriety, this is a constant reminder to me. I sometimes wear a necklace with the serenity prayer and tree of life on it.
I've also been a bit stubborn, most of my ex drinking buddies hate that I am still not drinking because it makes them look at their life. I see this as a good thing. And finally I just got tired of my life, tired of the control I allowed alcohol and tired of loathing myself.
Just reach out to this amazing community and care about yourself enough to keep sober- you really are worth it despite what you may think.

Sorry for the late response. Thanks so much I really appreciate it!! I am back to day 4 and will keep your thoughts in mind to keep me motivated. I am thinking of getting the sobriety date. I can't believe I joined this site in January, yet only have 4 days. Actually, if I am honest with myself-- I have been trying for many years!! I am trying to balance taking this really seriously once and for all and not getting totally demoralized from my failures thus far. Thanks again!!
