Opiate withdrawal

Just a quick post that may help someone. I am on oxycodone and am doing a slow taper. Yesterday I forgot to take any medication after my morning dose. My mind was focused on other things yesterday and I simply forgot. Last night about midnight I could not get into a comfortable sleeping position, waited it out for an hour, noticed then I was sweating quite a bit, then some restless leg stuff. It finally clicked that I hadn't taken any oxycodone since 7AM.

Point is, it wasn't that bad. Alcohol withdrawal I felt was terrible because of the impending doom and fear, ambien withdrawal was bad because sleep deprivation and I grinded my teeth and my teeth chattered. This was an experience where I knew my body was reacting to something, but it was not horrible.

So you can take that for what its worth. I realize everyone is different.

Not going cold turkey. slow taper. Essentially I am tapering as much as I can while still be able to go down stairs. While knees are getting much stronger, going down without any pain medication is quite painful.

I am glad that you are tapering off the pain medicine, and hope you are able to stick to your plan.

Off Topic--Being I live in Minnesota and actually very close to Paisley Park, I am inundated with Prince stuff on social media and of course TV. Starting to see never seen before video and also his famous stuff being posted everywhere. He really was amazingly gifted musician. Even if you didn't like his music, you have to respect his talent. I can't get too involved as music a major trigger for me.

jeff, is it possible that there will just be SOME pain now in those knees going down stairs? while i never seriously injured either knee, no surgeries, they don't seem to really LIKE being knees and doing all that bending, crouching or dear God, kneeling. mine hurt every flight i take....up or down. and they just aren't going to improve much from here. so i guess i'm saying, if you are aiming for 100% pain free that might be a long long time......or maybe never, unless you rely on pills.

i'm NOT saying Cowboy Up and Bite on a Bullet....i'm just curious about your own expectations and the overall prognosis...........

I get what your are saying. The best I can explain it is all other areas of activity are fine. While taking the medication I can go downstairs fairly well. But if we get cold wet weather or first thing in the morning when I have not taken any medication since the 6PM the night before, I need to brace myself with handrail and wall to go down the stairs to let the dog out. To your point, I should probably try going 30+ hours to see what the pain level is.
