What health ailments have disappeared or diminished in Sobriety?

Hi, I'm Jill and I'm an alcoholic, and it's been forever since I've posted here. On a weeknight. Anyway, a doctor's visit made me recall how my health has improved over the last 23 months. So, no more:

Scurvy
Dry eye syndrome
Migraines
GERD
Coagulapathy/bruising easily
Muscle wasting
Hypertension
Heart palpitations
Hair loss
Rocesia
Liver failure...the most obvious

Unfortunately I still have mental issues. Lol

My depression and anxiety have gotten a lot better. And my sleep is a thousand times more restful.

I had a rash all over my upper body that was a constant source of itching. Went away as soon as I stopped. Amazing that even that wasn't enough to stop me. The liver pain was however. That went away 2 months after I stopped.

I think we all have mental issues. Once I sobered up at least I know what they are and can work on them instead of stumbling around in the gray fog of alcoholism

I had heartburn so bad that it felt like my insides were on fire. Even drinking water felt like swallowing knives.

I seem to have gotten some new ailments, but I haven't had the heart arrhythmia or as much lightheadedness since I quit 39 days ago. I think more stuff will get better over time.

Depression and anxiety are gone, hair is growing back again(stress), progesterone and estrogen levels are evening out, insomnia gone. Heartburn lessened, energy back, stamina returning

Yeast infections, yay! Haven't had one since before I quit drinking over three years ago. So very thankful.

On day 2 the shakes were gone and the daytime menopausal hot flashes were gone.
After only 5.5 months sober, hair is growing thicker.
Fingernails like I've never had. Wicked strong and long. I call 'em my sober nails.
14 pound loss and now am at my ideal weight.
I no longer bruise easily.
Teeth are whitening due to lack of red wine.
People want to know why I look so good.

Hypochondria!

I constantly worried that my drinking was going to cause liver damage, breast cancer, pancreatitis, etc.

Anxiety attacks, headaches, shakiness, that about to pass out feeling, high blood pressure and complete emotional instability- all gone.

Found out I actually enjoy exercise. It's like an alternate universe.

These are gone.

Daily diarrhea about five times
acid reflux
unbearable headaches
high blood pressure
red face
flushed complexion
Profuse sweating
Hot flashes
Cold chills
Panic attacks
Irregular heartbeat
Rapid heartbeat
Chest pains
Red/purple feet
Bloodshot eyes
Liver pain
Lower back pain
Insomnia
Restlessness
Depression
Malaise
Lowered hygiene/wrinkled clothes
Puffy eyes
Hypochondria/daily thoughts of death and disease
Shaky hands
Dark urine
Left side pain/pancreas?
Unquenchable thirst

Wow. Now that i now that tape that out that's really long.

My body was a complete disaster. My insides ached. Once I googled if it was possible to have a heart attack in your 20's. The rapid heartbeat was perhaps the craziest part. My blood pressure was consistently 180/something.

My digestion was also unbelievably bad.

All of this is gone.

It's also really nice not sweating all the time and wondering if people noticed. How could they not?

The first thing I got looked at was my busted ankle turns out as I didn't go hospital when I should have I now have arthritis in that ankle I did do physiotherapy sessions and I still exercise it today

Serious ear infection that went on for 9+ months - I can't tell you how happy I am since that cleared up

Alopecia - I had a ever increasing patch on my head it got quite big and it took 2 rounds of injections months apart as the alopecia returned as soon as my hair did
today most 98% of the patch has cleared up and I have a tiny patch of white hair on the back of my head

If I was drinking none of these things would ever have got sorted out

Just under 6 months of sober time - 55 YO male - quick observations:

I sleep better.
I have lost about 12 pounds

In the long run my health will decline as I continue to age but the rate of decline should be a lot slower now.

Reading these lists is a strong reminder that.....

Alcohol is poison....

I had all of these too.

My hair hasn't grown in yet, but it has only been 11 months....

My cholesterol was over 300 on the strongest dose of Lipitor my liver could tolerate.

Now it's 166 on no medication whatsoever.

Wow it's great to read this! Amazing to see how much better everyone feels.
I always wonder if my thinning hair is caused by my drinking.
