New to forum scared and looking for some hope

my story is that I started drinking a little in my 20s even though both my parents were addicted to alcohol. I increased my drinking over the years. Drinking mostly beer until my mid thirties when I quit smoking and drinking and became a vegetarian. For about 15 years I was relatively healthy. Then I went through a major depression when I was 52 and went to a wine tasting to try to meet people. After that I was drinking a bottle a night for a while then two bottles or more some nights. I also have overeating issues and am very obese. Although I've stopped for very short periods I've really continued drinking for the past 17 years. I've lost mobility and don't get out very much so I'm lonely. I believe that the drinking stems mostly from my loneliness. I'm worried all the time about what I'm doing to my health. I hope to hear from others and share with them.

My hope is to quit . I read that it's best to taper off but others disagree. It's tough because I'm alone. If I were wealthy I'd hire a person to stay with me and keep me company.

Hi lonely....... Guess what....... you are most certainly no alone anymore, we are all here for you, all you have to do is post, there is udually someone here at any time.... I too drank out of lonliness, and boredom. I gained weight because of the alcohol and now I'm working towards sobriety and slimming down a bit with exercise. Welcome to SR. Look forward to reading your posts

Hi lonelywombat

Seeing as been drinking a long time and you have other health issues, I really suggest you see your Dr, or a Doctor - they'll be able to advise you on what might be the best way to stop for you.

I'm younger than you but I'm disabled and faced similar housebound and health issues.

SR has been a lifeline for me - it's given me back purpose and hope.

I still have my problems, but I'm sober, and life has never been better

I'm really glad you've joined us.

D
