Suboxone for 10 years

hi all,
this is very hard for me, I have always come up with my own reasons for not going off the subs, and it worked for 10 years, deep down I knew, like we all know, this was a BAD decision. I have finally run into that reason for stopping and it turns out that I can choose one med or the other in my case, I take Natural Desiccated Thyroid for my hypothyroidism and just realized the nausea and headaches during the day are brought on by taking subs with the antagonist (I know I have that wrong, but im guessing you know what I mean) directly after taking my thyroid meds and even thought the thyroid medication is not a drug like cocaine or heroin or benzo, for some reason, it is causing that familiar symptom of suboxone abuse that I know all too well, and had to weigh my options, because I cannot stand the naloxone abuse symptoms every single day. I am sure the saturation of my pineal gland from long-term use of suboxone has a lot to do with this, (yes, I have read, and it makes total sense, that the pineal gland can be overloaded or saturated by suboxone over time) I also find that there are not too many of long-term sub users out there, so I am in a group of my own it seems, and that sucks. WTF am I going to do?

The best idea would probably be to talk to the dr who prescribed the suboxone and hopefully he can give you good suggestions for stopping it.

Welcome arugala.

I think the best advice you will receive is what Anna gave.

Best wishes

I have and he doesn't have a thought either way, I can come off them or stay on, and he brushes away any concerns I have regarding long term affects of subs. am I on the wrong page? am I alone in just starting out? are you all people who have already overcome your addiction? because I need to relate to someone and pretty quick. what I want to do is be in a coma for a month and wake up drug free, of course this is crazy thinking, but I have never had to w/d, I ALWAYS made sure I took something, and now taking something is causing me to be ill, this is so karma, its what I deserve finally.

it all makes sense, the chronic tiredness and depression, I thought it was thyroid related and it probably is, but, im getting a double dose of overlapping crappy symptoms from both addiction and an illness that both affect my endocrine system

You will never know how much the suboxone has been affecting you until you stop using it and recover. But, I don't believe it's karma or that you deserve to suffer. Try to look at it as getting your health back and recovering.

There is a subuxone forum to link on, go to the main page and scroll down to the substance abuse part, it's under there. You will find help x

Hi,
You are not alone. I have been on Suboxone over 10 years now. I started taking 16 mg daily and now I have been on 4mgs daily for about 4 years now. I have tried coming off this crap twice and both were disasters. I was one of the guinea pigs when I started taking it and the drs had no clue on what this does to us with long term use. I have been told I can stay on it for the rest of my life, and I have been told I shouldn't have been on it for more than 1 year.

Now I am at a pretty bad place health wise. I haven't been feeling well for awhile now. I have hot flashes with sweat attacks 3 to 4 times daily. I am tired constantly, and I have no energy. I have no sex drive as well. I had my testosterone level checked and it is at 58. Very low. Mentally I have been dealing with depression and anxiety that has gotten worse over the last 5 years. Now I know that the Suboxone is causing all of this.

I am going to make another attempt at getting off this stuff once and for all. I am going to work with someone that understands this drug and take it very slow.

By the way I am a male, 52 years old. Married, and father of 5. I have been around my family but really not there if you know what I mean. I have basically checked out of any emotions or interests.

I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone and its good to know that I am not either.

I am really tired of being this way and I feel like I was really duped into taking this drug as I am more addicted to this then any other drug I have taken.

Tim

I was wondering if your doctor is a psychiatrist or specialist in addiction or neither. If the doctor isn't being helpful or perhaps simply does not have the knowledge or specific training, you might consider another medical opinion. Not all docs have specific training in addiction.

A friend of mine used subs to 'cure' him from what he was addicted to. Then he was hooked on the subs for a couple of years. To me it's 'big pharma' just getting you to buy from them.. Just my opinion and exactly the way he explained his realization once he got off them.
