Drunk Online Shopping

Apparently drunk online shopping is a *thing*. According to the news, online retailers see a surge of online shopping around 2:00 a.m. on Friday nights. Various people were interviewed describing their "drunk shopping" escapades, and their sobering realizations at the bills. Has this happened to any of you guys? I know a guy who once ordered 600 buck's worth of Viagra during an Ambien blackout. He didn't realize until the next morning when he saw the confirmation email.

That's something I've never done. Probably cause I didn't have enough money in the bank to do any shopping, drunk or sober.

Many times! A few years ago after I moved into my new house, I realized I needed a couch. While completely drunk, I measured for and purchased a couch online at Crate & Barrel. I woke up the next day thinking, "Did I buy a $2000 couch last night?" Horrified. When the couch arrived, I was surprised to see that it was a good color and it fit the space. I still have it and love it but it was pure luck more than anything.

I have booked trips while drunk, too, and it's a horrifying thing to wake up to on top of a hangover!

Drunk shopping was one of my favorite pasttimes.
I get terrible anxiety around spending money so had to be done drunk. But then it was so easy to add items to the shopping cart. I bought like 7 expensive bracelets once. Because they were pretty and a good price. I don't really wear jewelry but anyways.
I bought two empty sunscreen bottles meant for alcohol off Amazon. For shame. And I loved shop overseas cheap clothes.
Ebates and booze at Christmas time?! Christmas done easy. I hate store shopping.

The viagra and couch story... too funny!!

I did it. The weird thing is that I still do it even though I don't drink.

My checking account is linked to my Amazon and Groupon apps, it made online shopping way too easy. I woke up a few times and found I had spent money I shouldn't be spending on things I didn't need!!

Haha Dave, I was actually on a girl's trip with this guy's wife who is a friend of mine when the "order" took place. Apparently he found this bargin basement online deal and it was several boxes of the stuff! This was several years ago. My friend wasn't very excited about going home...

Delilah, the news piece actually addressed that very issue, saying that it was best not to have your account/credit cards saved to t he sites.

I've not done extravagant online shopping, but less inhibited, for sure. I shop for hobby items, and used to watch eBay auctions for beads. They are so pretty, it's like looking at candy! I had such a stash of beads now. I've been working on making things in hopes of selling at a craft fair or on etsy.

There was one Christmas where so many things were coming and I'd forget I'd gotten them, until I'd open them. But it was all reasonable gifts that I wanted to give the kids. Only once I forgot about a Nerf football and bought it twice.

I still shop online regularly. I hate malls. I'm more frugal when sober.

And, Delizadee, was that you I saw drinking sunscreen on the beach??

Pondlady, two specific items mentioned were dresses and shoes. Dress sales on late Friday night surge over 300%, and expensive shoes was a big seller as well. Some companies are even marketing durig these specific hours to get their share of the drunk revenue.

I used to get online and buy hundreds dollars of books while drunk. Now, I save the books that I want to a wish list, and when I am done with my pile of unread books and have a few extra dollars, I buy a few off of my list. Usually, if shipping time isn't a concern, I can usually find most of the books used for a few dollars a piece.

I also used to bid on really expensive records on ebay late at night. That practice came to a screeching halt in sobriety.

LOL. I feel like it's inappropriate to laugh at the trouble caused by drinking, but this thread is so funny

I put a max bid on eBay for $1500 for a sterling silver "spoon" ring. I was horrified when I woke up. I did win the ring but the sale closed out at about $30 or so, what the ring was pretty much worth

This is a good one. I bought an original pressing of the first Misfits single, "Cough Cool" on Blank Records. The guy posted pictures of an original, legit copy, and I naively assumed that it was the record that he was selling. When it showed up, it was a white label bootleg repress with a xeroxed sleeve. Of course, had I been sober when bidding, I would have noticed that most of his feedback was negative. So when I got it and realized that I was swindled, his account was mysteriously gone. After several weeks of trying to convince ebay that I was wronged, they finally told me that without contacting the seller, they could only refund me a portion of the sale price. It was a small portion. That was when I officially quit visiting ebay when drinking.
