New to forum on day 4

Morning all,
I'm new here and would like to take a moment to tell a bit of my story:
Over the years, I have been drinking more and more. Managing ( somehow) to hold down a well paid job and raise a child. Things started to go bad when only child left home to raise her own family and beloved dog died suddenly ( within days of each other) I now know I was experiencing severe depression which led to excessive drinking. I know I cannot have just one drink,it always leads to others and am currently on day 4 alcohol free. Thanks for reading and I look forward to meeting you all.

Warm welcome to you, you've made a great decision to get sober.
Your daughter will still need you and your life is a new chapter waiting to start. So sorry about your dog, love and hugs.
xx

Welcome to the forum. Great support here and people don't judge. You've been through a rough time and need to focus on something positive and consuming so the alcohol can't act as an option for escapism. Read up on peoples stories here and you'll see how far into darkness alcohol can take you. It doesn't need to be that way though and that's what being here is all about.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on day 4!! Having our children leave to go to University or start their own life is really tough, I was a single parent of two, boy and girl. Unfortunately they went to other provinces for their education and stayed and now have their own career's so I don't see them often, it's really hard some days. I am very sorry to hear about your dog, I have a Portuguese Water Dog (Maya), she is like a child to me and I know I would be devastated if anything happened to her, stay strong and we are pulling for you. Hi - Welcome to the forum.

I am noticing that I feel less depressed when I am not drinking. Maybe the same will be true for you? Hang in there...

Welcome to the family. Now that my kids are grown and gone, my dogs and cats are my kids. Losing any of them is very hard on me but I always get another dog or cat to love as a tribute to the one I lost. I have room in my home and in my heart for another critter who needs love.

Welcome, I think that many of us have self-medicated with alcohol in an attempt to deal with depression and anxiety. It's good that you know that you need to stop drinking and good job on getting to Day 4. You will find lots of support here.

Good to meet you, Jax. I'm glad to hear you're on Day 4 - we know how hard those early ones are. Being here to talk things over helps.

Hi everyone,
Thank you all so much for all the love and support. I've made it to day 5 and seem to be gaining energy despite the bizarre nightmares ( being an unknown mule for a jewel smuggling gang and throwing up strings and precious stones!!) who knows what that means??!!
Got through yesterday at work (I work in a pub but don't really drink there) I have applied for a new job that I believe would be perfect for me so onwards and upwards!
I have spent hours reading the stories on here and nodding alone thinking that's me, that's me, now to change my mind set so I can say it used to be me.
Healing thoughts to everyone. J x

Glad you're here!
Those strange dreams are pretty common and will pass.

Soon enough you'll sleep better than you have for years.

Well, I made it to day 7 🙏👏🏻
Day 5 ended up with me all emotional, crying because my home food delivery wasn't delivered (oh dear!) A McDonald's meal made the world better though and tried to get an early night ... Finally fell asleep at 4am.
Day 6 , so much better! Out for a lovely Chinese meal for lunch, laughing hysterically at my husband whilst shopping, remembering all items I needed to buy, work 7:30pm til 2am. Dancing and singing along with the customers in the bar whilst drinking Diet Coke. Home for a snack and sleep at 3am knowing no hangover Sunday morning. Makes me wonder why I ever drank alcohol, all I can think of are the negative effects and no positive
Thanks to everyone for their support, really does make everything easier.
Onwards and upwards, love and light to all.
J
