Trying again

Hello, I have had it! Been on the merry-go-round for decades. I'd get 18 months, a year, a few months here and there. I am a binger. Just past the first 24 hours. Feeling a bit better. I know I'll be out of it for a few days. Plan to return to AA. Had best results when attended. Guess I wanted to vent and see the words in writing. Plus this is a start to accountability. I'm in no shape to leave my apartment quite yet. Very thankful for a site like this...

Trying again

Hello, I believe I posted in the wrong place a few minutes ago! I'll catch on. Wanted to write and start having at least some accountability. I've been binge drinking for decades. I'd put 18 months, a year, a few months here and there together but always returned to drinking. My story is the usual. Lost marriages, friends and jobs. There are "yets" lingering for me. I'm just past the first 24 hours and I am feeling rough. I know the next few days are going to be a bit painful. Well I just wanted to touch base and vent a bit. Very thankful for all of you here on SR. Thank you...

Welcome!
The only way I have been able to stay sober was to join AA and get a sponsor. Before I did that I always went back to drinking as well.

Welcome Scott! Your story is so familiar to mine. The only difference being that I bounced from one drug to another. I'd quit something, be sober for a lengthy period, then pick up something new.

Alcohol was my last DOC, and the most destructive with divorce, unemployment, and bankruptcy as the casualties.

I'm with you. No more.

We both know how much better life is without drugs and alcohol. We've both seen that the grass IS actually greener on the other side.

Let's make the plan to stay here. Yeah...there's no grass right now. But there's fertile land. Work hard and you can have the greenest grass you've ever had. You have a CLEAN SLATE.

SR has a lot of good tools to help. And a bunch of helping hands. Helping hands of all kinds...passionate hands, desperate hands, experienced hands, learning hands. You're not alone.

Welcome aboard!!!

Hi! Yes! My best results were while attending AA. I REALLY need the accountability it provides. There is a great morning meeting less than 1/2 mile from my apartment! I may need a couple of days to get through this last one. That's why I registered with SR to get me focused on what must happen. I downloaded a recovery plan and will get more info as well. So grateful for all of you.

Thanks Copperfield (et al) I must stay in the moment. Not yesterday or tomorrow. Keeping addiction at bay is work. I have a tendency to lay off the work when I feel better and things smooth out. Only to get in trouble with it again. I really need to be around others like myself. It just makes sense to me. Thanks!

Hi Scott and welcome,

I'm glad you are here and trying again. It's good that you know this is the time to make sobriety work for you. Do talk to your dr if you feel concerned while you are detoxing.

In the book, AA, there is a story about a guy that slips up and hits the skids drinking ... again ... the writers say of him, "he failed to enlarge his Spiritual Condition".

What worked for me after years of struggling, and repeated cycles of face in the pavement drinking ...

Work the Steps ... then ... continue to Work the Daily Steps - 10,11,12.

RDBplus3 ... Happy, Joyous and FREE ... and I KNOW U can B 2

Jade, its been about 35 hours since the last drink. In the past several hours I have really calmed down. Heartrate and breathing seem regular. Slight headache and nausea has disappeared. I've had a couple of small meals and keep drinking water. I was so glad, after all, that the liquor stores were closed yesterday. I drank quite a bit from Friday evening until early Sunday morning. I do see the usual poor sleep for several nights. If I do not stay active in recovery I will end up the same. Not sure if I can handle more hangovers/WD's....

RDB, Maintaining a good solid spiritual condition is my best hope. Indeed.

I'm a binge drinker too.
The hangovers were killing me.
That, blackouts and getting fat from wine are biggest deterrents ( among other things of course)
Best wishes xo
