Introducing Big Daddy
Introducing Big Daddy
From the beginning of my time on SR, 3 to 4 years, and 5000+ posts later my profile picture was my beloved Golden Retriever Cuervo who was my first loss in recovery.
Unfortunately as some know I lost another fur baby yesterday, "Big Daddy AKA Chester."
Big Daddy was a big daddy. He was 120 lb Golden Retriever which is very large for the breed. He was the kindest most gentle dog I have ever had and I have had a lot of dogs over the years.
He was so laid back we did all sorts horrible things to him, bunny ears, costumes, various clothes, and glasses. He simply didn't care and was happy to wear whatever you put on him.
I put the sun glasses on him and my wife and I are cracking up. He just sat there while I got the phone out and snapped the picture.
So that is the story of my profile picture. Big Daddy is now watching over us and hopes you have a sober day

I am so sorry for the loss of Big Daddy. He will live forever in your hearts.
“We who choose to surround ourselves
with lives even more temporary than our
own, live within a fragile circle;
easily and often breached.
Unable to accept its awful gaps,
we would still live no other way.
We cherish memory as the only
certain immortality, never fully
understanding the necessary plan.”

I'm sorry for your losses!... I pray that these season of sorrows will move into a better place.
Pets are our family members. I miss my big lab boy. He was like your "Big Daddy". I believe I'll see him & my other fur babies again. I still think of him every day.
Thank you for showing us, we can maintain sobriety through tragedy, severe loss, pain. I wished I would have been.
