Traditions Question

Hi All,

Not sure where to post this question, so I thought this forum would be the best place. I didn't see any section specifically dedicated the the 12 Traditions.

Anyone have any thoughts on this: Some members of our local Intergroup (it's an Heroin Anonymous group) have asked about printing flyers and forming some sports leagues for the spring and summer. This has raised some questions and some members are unsure if this is something we should be doing or not. Could it further Unity? Or would it simply end up "diverting us from our primary purpose?" Many AA groups sponsor dances, dinners, picnics, etc..

Any and all thoughts, comments, feedback would be much appreciated! Hoping to get some discussion points to bring to our next business meeting.

Thanx!

Jason H.

I know this doesn't exactly answer your question but our local NA has a softball league that meets up every weekend - I'm not sure how it fits in with their traditions though. Sober activities like these can be helpful for newcomers who think their lives are going to get boring without drugs or alcohol. Do you have any long time members you can ask? Some old timers work through the traditions with their sponsors and can probably answer this for you.

An A.A. group ought never endorse, finance, or lend the A.A. name to any
related facility or outside enterprise, lest problems of money, property, and
prestige divert us from our primary purpose.

I don't know about NA but I don't think it fly with AA. There is nothing wrong with a group getting toget her though as long as the AA name is not used

MIR has it right. I think as long as you form the league outside the name of HA then you should be fine. Like greens, there are some people who I know from NA in my local area are part of a softball league, but the league isn't affiliated with NA and they don't announce it or have flyers about it at meetings.

I think it's a great idea. Fun to choose a name.
